BISS LIST: 05.27.21 : The Time Has Come To Return To Live Music…

Happy Near Light at the End of the COVID-19 Tunnel!

My Dearest BISS Listers!!

It feels like this may really and truly be happening, doesn’t it?  Is the state of California really going to open up on June 15th? It kinda feels like an, “I will believe it when I see it” kind of moment, but with the success of the vaccines and cases dropping nationwide, BISS remains hopeful.

In my city of San Francisco, the first US city to have locked down (3.13.2020), we had the first day of zero COVID-19 hospitalizations this week, but we are cautious in our confidence. We all remember the subsequent shutdown last year when folks got lax and cases rose. If you recall from earlier BISS posts, I was already on restriction by March 7, 2020 from my doctor. My asthma was flaring up, causing me to cough.  At that time, the word “cough” was enough for the healthcare professionals to recommend self isolation ASAP, not to mention that the very sound of a cough in public could easily turn a head or two.

That being said, I understand that some people don’t believe in masks, vaccinations, or even the threat of Coronavirus. So here is a question based on my perspective: If there is just a 1% chance that it is real and that I could end up in the hospital or even die from this, would you wear a mask to protect me? Or is that on me? Are we a community that cares for each other as much as we care for the music that brings us together?

So, as we triumphantly return to the glory of live music, The BISS List is dedicated to being your #1 resource for all of our return to responsible live music in person! #safetyisnolongerthird

In the interest of our above motto of a responsible return to live music, we are featuring five events and series which are following this same philosophy.

You might notice that long-time BISS favorite musician, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, is playing on three of the FIVE featured shows that we have listed below.  We have been lucky enough to work with him quite a bit this past year on multiple virtual events through P B and Jam Consulting and we really appreciate his take on #SilverLinings.

We thought it might be time to check in with Lebo and see how he made it through this last year and what kind of plans he has in the coming months.  So here it is: Liberated: The (Practically Post-Covid) BISS List Interview with Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (Part 1)

Our always fantastic Contributing Editor, Josh Danson, had so much to talk with Lebo about that we will be sending out another BISS in a couple of weeks with Part 2 of this interview. Thank you Josh as always!!

Paper Moon Presents: Summer Concert Series

We are so excited to see our long time and highly respected friends in the music scene taking advantage of the BEAUTIFUL Bruns Amphitheater for a series of 5 shows in June and July. You may not be familiar about this venue yet, but you are going to love it! The ALO shows next weekend are already SOLD OUT  but did you know about Taj Mahal playing on July 2nd? Also, Rebirth Brass Band is playing on the 3rd and 4th of July? The BISS List crew is going to make a party out of it on July 4th, deviating from our beloved annual 4th of July pilgrimage to High Sierra Music Festival (See you @HSMF next year!) The BISS List crew has its OWN SECTION lined up for the 4th of July Rebirth show!  When you buy your ticket from Paper Moon Presents, be sure to look for “Best Available” and then under BISS Tickets, use the code “BARD”. It will be AMAZING to all dance together for Rebirth! Plans are forming for a pre-show picnic on the gorgeous grounds, then we can follow the parade of Giant Puppets into the venue and dance our butts off together. The show will be over early enough (around 9p) that we should find somewhere nearby to watch the fireworks.

Full events, with extra performers, craft vendors, nonprofits tabling, and picnic meals for sale. The venue, nestled in the woods on a protected watershed just outside of Berkeley, has presented theatrical shows for years, but now will open it to concertgoers as well.

The Days Between Festival @ Black Oak Ranch (Hog Farm) ft. two nights of Dark Star Orchestra

As spelled out so far, we see some of the best event producers doing things the right way here in Norcal. This event is no exception. We will be camping at the good old Hog Farm on August 6th and 7th for ‘The Days Between’, an event to honor the life and music of Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead. How is that going to be safe, you ask? A Vax-only event is the answer. Get the shot and you’re good to rock!  Jerry was born on August 1, 1942 and died on August 9, 1995. The nine days between Jerry’s birthday and his passing are considered ‘The Days Between’, and this festival is honored to hold the namesake of these hallowed dates.

An intimate, family friendly, COVID-safe music festival, located at the beautiful Black Oak Ranch in Northern California, where oak woodlands and majestic meadows provide a magical setting to gather and enjoy music, camping, food and craft vendors, and community. Proof Of COVID-19 vaccine required.

  • August 6th & 7th : 2 nights of Dark Star Orchestra!!
  • PLUS: David Nelson Band, Stu Allen & Friends, Full Moonalice, Whiskey Family Band, Grateful Bluegrass Boys
