Happy Women’s History Month BISS Listers!
As March rolls in, it’s like we’re scrolling through a playlist of awesome stuff: spring’s knocking, Women’s History Month is on, and we’re gearing up for International Women’s Day. It’s a time to shout out the incredible women who’ve shaped history and are still making waves today. And hey, don’t forget about daylight saving time – that clock shuffle is a yearly reminder that change is in the air. Plus, keep an eye out for those live music gigs featuring some seriously talented women – because what’s better than celebrating with good tunes? March is all about soaking up the vibes, honoring the ladies, and feeling those fresh beginnings.
We’ve got another week jam-packed with killer performances lined up. From soulful grooves to funky rhythms, we’ve got the ultimate recommendations to get you moving and shaking! So, rally your crew, snag those tickets, and let’s groove our way through an epic week of shows that’ll have you feeling the funk like never before! But before we jump into the excitement of what’s to come, let’s take a moment to relive last week’s musical brilliance.
Last week in the San Francisco Bay Area, music lovers were treated to a diverse and delightful array of concerts, offering something for every taste. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights:
Tuesday & Wednesday: While I wasn’t personally at Madonna’s Celebration Tour at Chase Center for both nights, reports from many of my friends paint a vivid picture of an incredible and energetic performance filled with iconic hits. A big thank you to Lexy for sharing these wonderful video captures from the show at Chase! And thank you to ALL who responded from EVERYWHERE to my post looking for pictures and videos from the Madonna Tour. It’s so good, I had to include that here too. #carefulwhatyouaskfor
Last Wednesday: Lukas Nelson delivered an explosive performance at The Fillmore, playing all the hits and leaving the audience wanting more. The excitement soared even higher on Thursday night when Bob Weir and Particle Kid joined him as special guests, making it an unforgettable night for fans of jam bands and rock legends. While I captured some moments from the show, my skills can’t compare to the professional work of our subscriber and photographer, Gabriel Barkin. Some of Gabriel’s incredible captures of the Lukas Nelson performance can be found on BISS List’s Instagram. Be sure to check out his full review on Grateful Web!
Thursday and Friday: Monophonics kicked off a two-night residency at Sweetwater Music Hall with a celebration of Leap Day on Thursday with Suzanaimal opening. The Monophonics soulful and authentic sound undoubtedly captivated the audience. A big thank you to Jim for capturing some of the magic of the Thursday night show! Friday night continued the celebration with Kendra Morris joining them as the opener for another captivating performance. Special thanks to Ashley for capturing Kendra Morris’ opening set for Monophonics!
Friday & Saturday: The Wood Brothers commenced their two-night stay at The Fillmore on Friday. They delivered two powerful setlists featuring fan favorites, showcasing their exceptional musicianship and undeniable on-stage chemistry. The opening act, Rainbow Girls, almost stole the show with their energetic performance, humor, and witty lyrics, setting the perfect tone for the evening. Feel free to relive the magic of the Wood Brothers & Rainbow Girls through my captures.
Last Friday, Late Night: Still buzzing from the energy of the Wood Brother at The Fillmore, we knew we had to extend the night (duh!). So, it was on to our late-night haven, the one and only Boom Boom Room, to catch Afrolicious. (I know, huge shocker) Their infectious Afrobeat-funk fusion never fails to get the crowd moving, and this time was no exception. I’m so stoked they’ve been gracing the Boom Boom Room stage more often lately. Here’s to many more unforgettable nights like this one!
Last Sunday: Despite the rainy Sunday afternoon, the Ivy Room was surprisingly packed for Lovin’ Dead’s double set of Bob Dylan and Grateful Dead songs. The event producer, Mr Hat, said: “The vibe was high, and the sound was perfect at the Ivy Room. The band tore through two electric sets of Bob Dylan and Grateful Dead songs- it was a really fun dance party and everyone was home by 9. Pat Nevins was perfect in the Dylan role and meshed wonderfully with Lovin Dead, they had a blast and are looking forward to collaborating on more shows.” You can see a clip from the show right here! Thank you Mr. Hat!
Overall, last week offered a diverse musical tapestry in San Francisco, from legendary performers returning to the stage to rising stars making their mark. The city continues to be a vibrant hub for live music experiences, and with the help of dedicated fans like Lexy, Gabriel, Jim, Ashley, and Greg who shared their experiences, we can all enjoy a glimpse into these incredible performances. Are you ready to share yours too?
Now, get ready for a week bursting with a multitude of musical experiences!
This Wednesday : We are kicking off our celebration of Women with the soulful and electrifying vibes of Grace Potter, tonight, March 6th at The Fillmore. This charismatic vocalist and multi-instrumentalist is known for her powerful vocals, captivating stage presence, and ability to blend blues, rock, and soul into an unforgettable live experience. I am really looking forward to getting down with the crew from She Is The Music! Where’s my ladies at?!
Thursday – Saturday: Don’t miss the California Honeydrops‘ sold-out three-night residency at The Fillmore, starting Thursday. This Oakland band blends retro-soul, pre-blues, New Orleans funk, and classic R&B into an electrifying live experience. My personal picks are Thursday & maybe Saturday, depending on ticket availability. Catch them if you can!
Friday: Celebrate International Women’s Day with China Dolls, a female-fronted jam band bringing a fresh perspective to the Grateful Dead and JGB songbook. These ladies infuse their performances with passion and heart, weaving intricate jams and soulful vocals into their renditions of these classic tunes. Catch them at Ashkenaz and you could even (*WIN*) a pair of tickets through BISS!!
More Friday: It looks like I am East Bay bound for sure on Friday night. One of my long time favorites, Pimps of Joytime, is playing at The New Parish (*WIN*). Prepare for a night of funky beats and groovy tunes as Pimps of Joytime take the stage, promising a performance that will keep you dancing all night long. As an added bonus, the talented Object Heavy, another personal favorite, will be opening the show, ensuring that the evening kicks off with a bang.
Late Night Friday: Late night revelers rejoice! The Boom Boom Room is hosting Ricky G’s Funk Explosion (*WIN*) for a late-night throwdown after his earlier gig with Karl D at The Guild. Get ready for a funky tribute to legends like The Meters, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner – this show promises a high-energy journey through funk history, lasting until 2:45 AM. So, no matter where your Friday night takes you, make sure to end it on a funky note!
Saturday: If the stars align and I manage to snag a ticket, I’ll be heading back to The Fillmore for another helping of the California Honeydrops‘ electrifying energy. Then late-night I’ll be heading to the Boom Boom Room for a dose of pure funk with Litty deBungus (*WIN*). This Oakland-based 6-piece ensemble is known for their powerful vocals, searing guitar solos, and tight rhythm section, creating a sound that’s guaranteed to get you moving. With a reputation for blending classic funk with psychedelic influences, Litty deBungus promises to be the perfect way to end the week on a high note.
With an eclectic lineup spanning genres and venues, this week’s BISS List is sure to satisfy even the most discerning music aficionados. And remember, this is just a taste of the week’s live music offerings. There is also G Love, Adam Theis Quartet, Soul Ska, & Karl D just to name a few!

SPOTLIGHT ON BLUESY ROCK STEW
The Record Company
March 14th @ The Fillmore
The Record Company cooks up a raw, bluesy rock stew, blending grit with swagger, leaving audiences sweaty and wanting more. The trio, Chris Vos on guitar and vocals, Alex Stiff on bass and backing vocals, and Marc Cazorla on drums and backing vocals, draws inspiration from blues giants like John Lee Hooker, the raw energy of early punk bands like The Stooges, and the classic rock swagger of The Rolling Stones. Their sound is a potent blend of these influences, characterized by soulful vocals, a tight rhythm section, and blues-infused guitar riffs. Catch them live, where their electrifying energy ignites every stage.
