Commissioning leading Balinese composers and choreographers and collaborating with Bay Area artists across an extravagant array of disciplines, GSJ gracefully navigates a twofold path marked by both reverence for tradition and creative innovation. Returning to the Gardens, GSJ brings a varied program that includes western Balinese jegog, an ensemble directed by local Balinese artist I Gede Artha Negara. Rarely heard outside of Indonesia, it's a loud, fast, and precisely rhythmic tradition performed on bamboo instruments. GSJ also presents the bronze-keyed, metallophone-powered gong kebyar, the most prevalent type of orchestra in Bali, directed by Balinese guest music director I Bagus Made Widnyana

One of the longest-running reggae acts of all time, Third World remained one of Jamaica's most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences for over 40 years. Regularly appearing on American and U.K. charts throughout the '80s, the band embraced a fusion sound that married elements of pop and soul to a reggae core on albums like 1989's Serious Business. Yeba Beuna Gardens Festival: Some sounds could only emerge in San Francisco, like the Arabic psychedelic rock of Camellia Boutros. A first-generation Lebanese-Palestinian composer and multi-instrumentalist, she spent years performing on trumpet, oud and bass in Arab, Balkan and Mexican combos. Eventually she developed a fretless 12-string electric oud-guitar as a vehicle for composing her own brand of experimental Arab rock. Writing music rooted in Arabic scales (known as Maqam) and San Francisco rock, she's captured her experience growing up between California and the Levant with her highly personal blend of psychedelia, folk, jazz and hip-hop. When she's not fronting her own band, Boutrous can be found performing with the percussion and brass-powered Mission Delirium, the Romany-inspired Balkan brass band Inspector Gadje, the all-femme son jarocho and Arabic folk musical project Corazon de Cedro and with Mexican-born rapper Chhoti Maa.

Eric Thompson & Dead Roots Revival -Legendary flatpicker Eric Thompson (Black Mountain Boys, David Nelson, David Grisman) has assembled a dream team for a fresh approach to the music of his teenage years, when he was a spitting distance witness to the birth of the Warlocks, soon to become the Grateful Dead. Thompson (at age 17) had been playing in several bluegrass bands with Jerry Garcia (Black Mountain Boys, Asphalt Jungle Mountain Boys, etc) as well as in Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, which also included his buddy Pigpen. He was living across the hall from Phil Lesh when the Warlocks began, but he himself had no interest in "going electric" and continued to play acoustic guitar, releasing a landmark bluegrass guitar album on Kicking Mule and, later, award-winning Cajun albums with the California Cajun Orchestra. Dead Roots Revival includes: Keyboardist composer extraordinaire Sam Reider (Jon Batiste, Sierra Hull, Laurie Lewis, Paquito d'Rivera)., Lifetime bluegrass insider Corbin Pagter (Crooked Jades, Country Ham, Mt. Diablo String Band), Percussionist rhythm dancer Keith Terry (Crosspulse, Pickle Family Circus, Bobby McFerrin), Multi-instrumentalist Paul Kotapish (Wake the Dead, New Vintage Revelers), Bassist Mark Schatz (Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, John Hartford, Nickel Creek, Sarah Jarosz.) At the early age of 4, she began playing violin and quickly became fascinated with her family's expansive record collection with a mother whose life had been embedded in the gospel church, Wilson found herself immersed in the genre and became enamored with R&B and gospel artists like Otis Redding, Billy Preston, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. It wasn't until her teenage years that she was introduced to genres like country rap and pop. "None of it really hit after so many years of what I was listening to, so I just implanted gospel into my brain." The name of Wilson's rollicking solo project fittingly came to her just as Wild Child was playing the last festival before their hiatus. While roaming around the festival grounds, a security guard yelled at her, calling her "sir" and "woman." Something clicked: It was the song that she had been singing in a dream the night before, the character she longed to create. "It felt so appropriate and reminded me of Motown, just classic but powerful. It was everything that I didn't really get to express in Wild Child." As Sir Woman, Wilson took the Austin music scene by storm in 2022 with the release of her full-length self-titled debut. It led to her taking the stage at renowned clubs, earning Artist Of The Year at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, as well as features in Rolling Stone, Spin.com, Variety and the Cover of Austin Chronicle and many other publications. The buzz surrounding Wilson's project has helped earn Sir Woman upwards of 30 million streams on Spotify.

Country, Singer/Songwriter, Blues Lucinda Williams "My dad, as a poet, always told me to never censor myself - that's one of his cardinal rules of creative writing," says multiple-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams. "That became my motto which I've stuck by all these years." Miller Williams' advice clearly is born out on Lucinda's powerful eighteenth studio album, the provocative World's Gone Wrong. "I felt a sense of urgency in making this record," she adds. Filled with gut-wrenching topical songs, the album's ten tracks were written and recorded in a blast of collaborative creativity as Lucinda and her cowriters - primarily husband/manager/co-producer Tom Overby and guitarist Doug Pettibone - grappled with events transpiring during the spring of 2025. A whole other album had been in the works, but that "urgency" to address our current cataclysmic situation motivated Lucinda and company to cut World's Gone Wrong in direct response. "Music is a powerful weapon," she points out. "I want this record to make people aware, wake them up. I like to push people's buttons." Lucinda, Pettibone, and Overby returned to co-producer Ray Kennedy's Room & Board Studio in Nashville to cut the tracks with her newly configured band: guitarist Marc Ford (Black Crowes), drummer Brady Blade (Emmylou Harris), and her longtime bassist David Sutton. On the gripping title track, they're joined by guest vocalist Brittney Spencer and keyboardist Rob Burger on Hammond B3. Its title inspired by the 1931 Mississippi Sheiks song (repurposed by Dylan in '93), the lyrics give voice to the lives of baffled everyday Americans: a nurse and a car salesman "workin' long hours" and "lookin' for comfort in a song." Throughout the album, Lucinda is at her most direct, not mincing words via those distinctive, one-of-a-kind vocals. The ominous "Something's Gotta Give" (also featuring Spencer) is

A living lesson in fortitude, the vocal trio of Cecil "Skeley" Spence, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin overcame adversity, illness, and poverty to become one of the finest roots groups in Jamaica's history. All three had been afflicted by polio and first became acquainted, albeit briefly, at Kingston's Mona Rehabilitation Clinic. The three teens had individually all previously converted to rastafarianism, now their shared faith and childhood experiences helped forge a strong friendship. They spent the next six years singing around Kingston for their suppers and by 1975, Israel Vibration was a vocal force to be reckoned with. The group's exquisite dread sound and militant cultural themes made an instant impression and the trio now found themselves on-stage opening for the likes of Bob Marley and Dennis Brown.

KC Turner Presents Cookout Concert Series Charlie MusselwhiteÕs journey through the blues was from his birth in Mississippi to Memphis, Chicago and California. Arriving in Chicago in the early sixties, he was just in time for the epochal blues revival. In 1966 at the age of 22 he recorded the landmark Stand Back! to rave reviews. A precipitous relocation to San Francisco in 1967, where his album was being played on underground radio, found him welcomed into the counterculture scene around the Fillmore West as an authentic purveyor of the real deal blues. Fifty years of nonstop touring, performing and recording have reaped huge rewards. Charlie Musselwhite is living proof that great music only gets better with age.

Presented by KEXP Funk, Soul, Rock Neal Francis The latest album from Neal Francis, Return To Zero, emerged from the kind of visionary feverdream that only the most masterful and inventive artists are capable of bringing to life. Amid an agrueling tour schedule that found him playing nearly 400 shows from 2021 to 2024, the Chicago-based singer/songwriter/pianist immersed himself in creating a beautifully strange entangling oftimeless rock &roll and Õ70s-era dance music, merging supremely heavy guitar riffs with lush andpulsating groovesÑall constructed sans digital programming, in keeping with his devotion to allthings analog. Worlds away from the glitzy fantasia of archetypal disco, Return To Zero inhabitsa far moodier atmosphere and ultimately makes for the most thrilling manifestation of FrancisÕpeerless musicality yet. Equal parts heady and hedonistic, pensive and euphoric, FrancisÕ third studio LP echoes both hisdeep-rooted psych-rock sensibilities and a lifelong affinity for classic funk.
