BISS List 7.25.24: Spotlight on Jerry Day & Nite (8.3) + Best of BISS this Week
Happy Amelia Earhart Day, my Dear BISS Listers! Just like Amelia soared to new heights, let’s turn up the volume and let our spirits take flight with this week’s BISS List full of the best of the past week and the best that’s yet to come!
Over the next few weeks while I am traveling, I am counting on you to report back to the BISS List Community to keep us all in the loop of the best shows you’ve been to and the next ones you are looking forward to! Email us or add to the BISS Community Photo Album to share your pictures, thoughts & comments! Be sure to say hi to Jenni & Phillip when you email us!
This past weekend was a live music family reunion of sorts for me, kicking off with BT at Blue Note Napa’s Meritage Resort. While I love all my longtime faves, Blues Traveler holds a special place in my heart as my longest-running musical love (and will always have a connection to Bo that makes them extra special). They had the crowd moving from note one with a mix of old-school favorites and newer fresh tunes. Huge shoutout and thank you to Evan, my dancing and driving partner-in-crime – you’re a freak in the best way possible! Please check out all the fun in my photo and video album here. Then Umphrey’s McGee took the stage and rocked the crowd out. Nice guest sit-in by John Popper. What a treat! Of course I captured it!
But the night wasn’t over yet! We closed out Friday with the high energy vibez & sounds of Blu Egyptian at Boom Boom Room – you can relive it for yourself in my album here.
Saturday was a whirlwind of packing for my four upcoming trips so I didn’t make it out, but I know more fam was out in full force for Taj Mahal. I heard it was epic. After packing, I rested up to be ready for Sunday’s highlight: Stern Grove. This week was a very different experience from last week with the VIP Experience providing parking and a table so no need to wait or issues with finding space. Thanks JP! We had a whole crew of our extended family out that day, and not just in the crowd – Clementine, the phenomenal bassist, was rocking the stage for the first band Satya! Check out their performance in my album here. Then the headliner Masego took over. I hadn’t seen him before, but what a smooth R&B, hip hoppy, captivating set! Spor says, “He sounds like a combination of Bunny Wailer and Perry Farrell.” T’was an overall super chill and groovy vibing Sunday afternoon. Check it out for yourself!
It was truly a fun-loving weekend overflowing with music, family, and new memories!
That’s not all that we have from the BISS List team on this past week of live music! Our man about town with a camera and a pen, Gabriel Barkin, wrote up not one but TWO reviews with photos!! Check out the summary of both reviews of the NMAS show at Hopmonk and the Sunday Daydream vol 3 show at McNears Beach in the section below, and then read them in full on the BISS List website!

BISS REVIEW
Sunday Daydream Vol 3: Phil Lesh & Friends @ McNears Beach Park
Phil Lesh, his many friends, and all the music lovers attending Sunday Daydream Vol. 3 could not have asked for better weather this weekend. The sun was shining, a soft breeze was blowing, and the thermometer stayed in the mid-70s. Even better, McNears Beach Park in San Rafael was alive with the music of the Grateful Dead and Terrapin Crossroads Nation. The Richardson Bay sparkled in the background, and a few boaters — and at least one enthusiastic kayaker — enjoyed the show from the water. Inside the gates, people danced on the small sandy shore that runs between the park area and the public swimming pool nearby. Children and adults cavorted in the ample sunshine. Check out the full review & photos from Gabriel Barkin.
BISS REVIEW
North Mississippi Allstars @ Hopmonk Tavern Novato
The North Mississippi Allstars may not have been bona fide all-stars when they formed as a trio nearly thirty years ago, but the Brothers Dickinson have certainly attained that status by now. They proved their worthiness with a set that went way beyond their expected two-hour timeframe on Thursday at HopMonk Tavern in Novato. The NOMAs provide an earthbound experience, and I mean that in the best way. You can feel the land beneath these blues. You can smell the bayou from the front porch, and you can feel the swing of your own rocking chair in the southern twilight. You can taste the pork, the beans, the sweat. Check out the full review & photos from Gabriel Barkin.
