BISS List 6.6.24: Spotlight on For the Funk of It (8.9-8.11) + Best of BISS this Week
Hiya BISS Listers, Happy Funkin’ Thursday!
This week’s BISS List is overflowing with sonic goodness, but first, let’s rewind to last week’s whirlwind of shows!
Last Week’s Adventures
- My Morning Jacket (5/30 @ The Fillmore): Pure magic. Jim James’ vocals soared, the band’s energy was infectious, and the crowd was all in. A night to remember. I know for some of you, it was a week of MMJ to remember! FB Album
- The Attic + Blü Egyptian (5/30 @ Boom Boom Room): The perfect after-party! The Attic brought their funky vibes, while Blü Egyptian kept the dance floor grooving until the wee hours. FB Album
- Tedeschi Trucks Band + Little Feat (5/31 @ The Greek): A double dose of blues-rock goodness! Susan Tedeschi’s guitar solos were on fire, and obviously so were Derek’s! The horn section! The vocals section! That whole band is so tight! And Little Feat’s classics had the crowd singing along to kick off the evening. FB Album
- APE, Radio Veloso, & DJ Otto (6/1 @ Cafe Du Nord): A global music journey! The night kicked off with DJ Otto’s eclectic beats, followed by Radio Veloso’s groovy rhythms that warmed up the crowd. Then APE took over the stage (with a special intro from yours truly) & brought down the house & closed out the night with their unique rock-xotica jams. Meanwhile, Crazy Al skillfully handcrafted a piece of wood into a beautiful tiki. Additionally, a lucky audience member won the raffle and took home the tiki. The night was a benefit for the non-profit organization, “City Surf Project.” It was a fantastic evening filled with music and creativity FB Album

LISTEN TO THIS
Listen to “Cruise” by The Humidors (Released 2023)
Oakland eight-piece The Humidors have been churning out their own unique brand of party music for over a decade, combining elements of hard-hitting funk, greasy soul, vintage R&B, and soul jazz. Their song “Cruise” has all of those elements you’ve come to expect from the Humidors.
We spoke with songwriter Andre Cruz and he told us, “The lyrics to this song came about after we created the beat — right away I knew I wanted to do something a bit different that would lean heavier into my blues/r&b influences. The end result ended up being a song about me, being myself (despite my best efforts); both playful, self-deprecating, and accepting of my own faults & ambition.”
You can catch The Humidors this month on June 14th at Elbo Room Jack London (*WIN*). And mark your calendar for more shows, with Sweetwater Music Hall on Aug 2nd and Music City SF on Sept 7th.
