BISS List 7.4.24: Spotlight on Fillmore Jazz Fest + Best of BISS this Week
Happy Fourth of July BISS Listers!
Jenni here filling in while Pamela is at High Sierra Music Festival. I know many of you are headed there as well, wishing you a long weekend of epic sets and new discoveries — enjoy every minute of it!
Last weekend I was fortunate to see a bunch of you at BISS List Presents: Tom Freund & Friends at Hotel Utah. It was an intimate, laid-back night with singer-songwriter and genre-hopping chameleon Tom Freund’s mix of heartfelt folk, sunny pop, smoky jazz, and classic rock and roll. It was wonderful to be amongst so many friends both off and on the stage. Gabriel Barkin has lots of photos and a great review of the night (more on that below).
For those of us still in the bay, happening right here in San Francisco this weekend is the Fillmore Jazz Festival (more on that below). We’ve also got lots of High Sierra musicians coming through this weekend and into next week. Here’s some suggestions to make your own mini-HSMF closer to home (and with cooler weather!).
- 7/6 Ziggy Marley @ Marin County Fair
- 7/6 Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives @ McNear’s Mystic Theatre
- 7/6 Bombino @ The Chapel (*WIN*)
- 7/7 Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives @ The Guild Theatre
- 7/7 Shinyribs @ Hopmonk Tavern Novato
- 7/9 Ghost-Note @ Cornerstone Berkeley
- 7/11 Ezra Lipp (of ALO) @ Ivy Room (*WIN*)
- 7/11 Damn Skippy (ft Scott Amendola) @ The Back Room Berkeley
May your week be filled with killer beats and endless inspiration. I’ll be back again next week while Pamela wraps things up at High Sierra.

BISS REVIEW
Tom Freund & Friends at Hotel Utah
Our resident reviewer Gabriel Barkin shares his photos and observations from Sunday’s show, presented by BISS List. “Tom Freund brought several of his friends to The Hotel Utah Saloon on Sunday night. Some of his friends even joined him on stage – notably drummer/percussionist Wally Ingram, who accompanied Freund for the entirety of his 90-minute set. Other friends enjoyed an evening comprised of both poignant and lighthearted songs, including originals from Freund’s long career and some fun covers. Indeed, he has been doing this thing for a while. And with that experience in tow, Freund is equally adept on guitar, double bass, ukulele, and piano. He demonstrated this versatility throughout the evening.” Check out the full review & pictures.
