Cuba & Beyond: The most influential figure in modern Afro-Cuban jazz for more than half a century, virtuoso pianist, composer and arranger Chucho Valdes celebrates 60 years of musical alchemy with the SFJAZZ premiere of his Royal Quartet project. The son of Cuban pianist Bebo Valdes, the winner of seven GRAMMYs and six Latin GRAMMY Awards joined Armando Romeu's celebrated Cuban Orchestra of Modern Music in 1967, a time when the communist government still considered American jazz anti-revolutionary. He was already recognized as the most formidable pianist of his generation when he launched Irakere in 1973 with a phenomenal cast that included saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera and trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Over the ensuing years, Valdes has concentrated on his career as a solo artist, recording 25 albums. Valdes's Royal Quartet brings together a masterful lineup of Cuban-born instrumentalists including bassist Jose Armando Gola, known for his lengthy collaboration with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the ambidextrous marvel Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez on drums, and percussionist Roberto Jr. Vizcaino, son of longtime Valdes associate Roberto Vizcaino.

Offer ends March 1st. Promo Codes are not applicable at the door. Codes are not case sensitive, but must be typed as one word. Guitar slinger Cotton Clifton has been electrifying Honky Tonks across the country as the right hand man for country artist, The Kernal, for 10 plus years, and for the past 3 years has added lead guitarist for Nikki Lane to his road warrior repertoire. On his latest single "California Stoned", he drafted Nikki herself as a guest singer; and it's a damn good time. Blending country funk, swampy rhythms, and pop sentiment straight from The Beatles, it's a catchy number ripped from well worn dance floors. His tried and true experience only makes for one hell of a show... His new album "100% COTTON" is out now! Already revered for his Jerry Reed-esque guitar virtuosity, Clifton's skill solidifies his place as a great country songwriter and rock & roll heavy-hitter. Whether it's the 9-5 grind, the wear and tear of the road, or late night fights and honky tonk neon lights, Cotton's music is for those that can relate with these struggles we all so often face. Grab a funnel cake and hang on, it's a fun ride. https://www.facebook.com/cottonclifton https://www.instagram.com/cotton_clifton/ https://www.youtube.com/@cottonclifton https://open.spotify.com/artist/32z66Bg0uvsFtH8fRiR6IK?si=tZlN92aBSXCgKlNfKl67NQ&nd=1&dlsi=2fdfd2c2b3c64f68 Noelle & The Deserters bring South-Western honky tonk from the high deserts of New Mexico to the golden hills of California. Fronted by singer-songwriter Noelle Fiore, their music draws inspiration from the likes of Emmylou Harris, Loretta Lynn, Marty Robbins, J.J Cale, Gene Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and the great outlaw country players. The Deserters include seasoned players Graham Norwood (Bryan Scary)(Graham Norwood solo) (guitar), Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set)(bass), David Cuetter (Tarnation)(pedal steel), and Jerry Fiore (Sonic Love Affair)(drums), all based in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Noelle was raised in Taos, New Mexico. As a guitar player and vocalist, she was a founding member of Sweet Chariot, singing and playing guitar/ banjo. Later, she and Tim Cohen (The Fresh & Onlys) founded the band Magic Trick, recording four full length albums for labels Hardly Art and Captured Tracks. Noelle is also a current member of the Shannon Shaw Band, on guitar and vocals. High Desert Daydream is Noelle & The Deserters debut album, out May 31, 2024 on Speakeasy Studios SF. The songs on the album, written by Noelle, touch on life in the west, growing up in Taos, living in California, songs of love, memory, marriage, work, good times, and bad times. Like all classic country music, the songs are infused with a sense of real-life struggles and living life in the everyday. Noelle’s incredible voice carries the album, and her songs are at once moving, powerful, tender, humorous, and intimately relatable. https://noelleandthedeserters.com/ https://www.instagram.com/noelleandthedeserters/ https://www.facebook.com/p/Noelle-the-Deserters-100067131705310/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxk3lt_o-RVx4TUnwuhKh2w

Born and raised in Oakland, California, Arieh Berl grew up playing in Punk and Indie bands around the Bay Area. While writing for his band, it became clear his new songs were meant for a completely different project. He wasn't writing punk or indie songs anymore, but a genre-bending mix of psychedelic rock, pop, R&B, 70's, and chillwave. These sounds eventually manifested into the formation of Pink Skies in 2016. Heavily inspired by the outdoors, especially backpacking and surfing, Berl describes Pink Skies as Escapism Pop, noting his creations are 'Pop songs shot through a laser and sent to the moon.' Pink Skies has a laidback feel mixed with existential lyrical ideas. + Slow Coast in an indie rock project out of the Bay Area in California that started in 2022. Their sunny, upbeat, beach-rock sound, contrasted by heavier lyrics, inspires a road trip that unexpectedly leads inward.

(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: The ever-evolving musical vehicle for notorious psych-rock musician Anton Newcombe, the Brian Jonestown Massacre has endured numerous phases and iterations since arriving in the mid-'90s, becoming something of an independent institution in the process. Early highlights like 1996's Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request showed Newcombe's propensity for melding late-'60s psychedelia with textured shoegaze, while later standouts like 2015's imaginary soundtrack Musique de Film Imagine took a more cerebral and experimental approach.

The Winter Warmer Festival was born from a simple idea: give our community something to celebrate when the season is quiet, the days are short, and the spirit needs lifting. We wanted to create an event that brings people together—not just to warm up with great food and music, but to rekindle the connections that make the San Lorenzo Valley special.
Set against the majestic backdrop of the redwoods, Winter Warmer is part cozy concert, part indoor market, part community reunion. It’s a chance to enjoy live music, indulge in comfort food, discover local artists, and support causes that matter—like our local fire department and the Homeless Garden Project.
Our mission is to celebrate community in all its forms: creative, collaborative, and connected.

The Expendables' infectious hybrid of ska, surf-rock, punk, reggae and metal can be heard in their latest streaming track, "Surfman Cometh," a spaghetti-western meets "Pipeline" twang that could easily form the soundtrack to the latest Quentin Tarantino film.

The Mermen are an American rock band from San Francisco, California that formed in 1989. The group's sound was originally rooted in instrumental surf and psychedelic music of the 1960s. Although their music delves into many genres, the sound is non-commercial and is mainly influenced by the band's founder, songwriter and guitarist Jim Thomas' modern melodic visions. The band's music is entirely instrumental and "does a good job of defying description", not fitting neatly into any musical genre. In concert, the Mermen always perform as a trio: electric guitar, electric bass, and drums (Jim Thomas on guitar, Jennifer Burnes on bass, Martyn Jones on drums).

Educated at the prestigious Berklee School of Music and soaking up influences from all realms, Curtin helms an underground assassin squad of some of Sacramento's most dangerous weapons. Keyboardist Neil Heaton is at the top of that list. He's an ultra-jazzy, improvisational instigator, painting ribbons of melody across every available surface. Curtin is a virtuoso who will blow you away with his technical abilities and wild imagination. He is a tonal master who explores effects unlike you've ever heard. The layers of groove and texture he brings to the jams has continued to elevated Love Mischief towards a coveted space many jambands are seeking.

Born right here in Chico, CA, The Mother Hips are a beloved institution and "college band" from back in the day....... How exciting that they warrant a tribute band dedicated to their music! Isaac Parsons (original bassist/co-founder of the Mother Hips) & Robby Dean (Ryder Thieves) had a notion to pay homage to the early era of the Mother Hips music. It was the 90's. Everything was fast and loose, and the tunes reflected an era of youthful bliss and angst. "Ike and I have been talking about this project for years. We finally found the right guys that also have the passion and respect for the Hips music. It's like a time warp, We just wanna have a good time & give these early Hips tunes some love......As Tim used to say, 'it's a full-blown rock show," says Dean. Rounding out the group with an additional guitar is Jeremy Plog (Jackie Greene/Golden Cadillacs) with Jerry Barton on drums (Officer Dick/As Yet Untitled).

Popscene and Brick & Mortar Music Hall Presents: Anna von Hausswolff is a Swedish musician and composer whose work carves out space for the celestial and the transcendent to enter into the modern world. Following her breakthrough album, Ceremony (2012), von Hausswolff's subsequent releases quickly cemented her as an artist of unpredictable and vast creativity, always moving forward, always melding tradition with experimentation in unimaginable ways. Taking the pipe organ, with its ancient whirring character, as her instrument of choice, von Hausswolff's sound has long played with the ethereal qualities of breath: of taking in, holding, and releasing it. This sometimes takes the form of colossal, doom-laden rock songs, and at other times, as intimate organ pieces

The Okeba Crew is back at the Boom Boom Room on Friday, March 20th. After almost a year, the band will be returning to the legendary San Francisco venue, providing two sets of ego dissolving symphonic pleasure! The band begins the night with a set of their original music, mixing sounds from around the world, in a laid back, California style. At set break, each member takes a sip from the electric kool-aid punch bowl. They head back to the green room, feeling uneasy. All of a sudden, their hair starts growing rapidly, their noses get bigger and tails drop to the floor. They've become Possums! Time to PLAY DEAD! They head back to the stage and play a second set, consisting only of Grateful Dead tunes.

Jeffrey Scot Tweedy (born August 25, 1967) is an American musician, singer songwriter, author, and record producer best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band Wilco. Sort of an endless buffet these days--a bottomless basket of rock bottom. Which is, I guess, why I've been making so much stuff lately. I mean, is the world getting darker? Sure feels like it. What is it? Is it the pervasive nagging toothache of dread that comes from the disintegration of a country that you thought you knew and understood? A home you still love with a love that could never be taken away, regardless of how painful that love has become? That sense of decline is hard to ignore, and it must be at least a part of the shroud I'm trying to unwrap. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss. Twilight sure is a pretty word, though. And the world is full of happy people in former empires, so maybe that's not the only source of this dissonance. Could be how old I've managed to become without warning. My own personal twilight. Whatever it is out there (or in there) squeezing this ennui into my day, it's fucking overwhelming. It's difficult to ignore. Twilight Override is my effort to overwhelm it right back.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of this miraculous force of nature! Coming all the way from Asheville, NC, Toubab Krewe return to the Crazy Horse for what has become an annual tradition. This instrumental powerhouse creates a sonic Pangaea that lustily swirls African traditions with groove-based rock, trance-inducing jam sensibilities, international folk strains and more. While nearly impossible to put in any box, it takes only a few moments to realize in a very palpable way that one is face-to-face with a true original. Beyond their groundbreaking paradigm, this approach is fueled by authentic tools of the trade. Lush, complex melodies are expertly evoked from African string instruments such as kora and kamel ngoni. Cascades of exotic percussion in lockstep with bass and drums, forming a driving, multi-layered foundation of hypnotic rhythms.

_DOLL FEST VOL II PRE PARTY! Doll Fest 2026 kicks off with a pre-show of Bay Area femme-fronted bands. Doll Fest is a celebration of the feminine energy, friendship, and gathering together of a community in support of one another. We recognize that femme-dom is a powerhouse feeling, emotion, and revolution in action. Following the footsteps of previous incarnations of feminine fests such as Lilith Fair and She Shreds, Doll Fest aims to be the next femme music and arts festival, showcasing two full days of all femme-fronted bands and artists, including pioneering bands that brought the Riot Grrl movement to life and active bands today that are paving the legacy of grrl power. We are still battling for true equality against the archaic non-values of patriarchy, still fighting for the power over our own bodies, and still proving our worth as voices to be heard. Doll Fest intends to bring together like-minded folx who embody the true spirit of Doll Fest - through empowerment, resilience, and nurturing of communities. We are anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia, anti-racist, anti-police violence and strictly anti-fascist. Let's rise up the dolls every March!

Double Down Time is a blues-based stripped down and “raw” trio that performs their original music and a sprinkle of blues covers. With Julia JD on harmonica and keys, David on guitar and slide and Ms. Lisa on percussion, they “double down” on toe-tapping rhythms, memorable melodies and vocals that showcase textured harmonies. This trio nerds out on the love of breaking down music to its core, mixing things up and then bringing every note back to new life. They embrace minimal acoustic instrumentation and arrangements, and strive for soulful, energetic vocal harmonies and improvisation. They think of songs as storytelling primarily. With all that’s transpired they are excited about so many new stories to tell through music. They bring new interpretations to the music that they cover, and craft new stories in the tunes they write themselves, to form soundbites they describe as authentic, inspiring, down-homey rockin’ bluesy fun!

Nick Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned), songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart, short-lived career as a pop star, and a lengthy term as a musicians' musician. But in his current 'second act' as a silver-haired, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter, he has no equal

For sixteen years, Sunn O))) have been challenging the way we think about music. In that relatively brief time, core members Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have forged connections between the worlds of Metal, Drone, Contemporary Composition, Jazz and Minimalism with startling results while remaining true to the eternal principles of volume, density and weight. The release of The Grimmrobe Demos (1999) sent tremors throughout the underground with its bold realisation of hitherto unimagined heaviness. Building on the innovations of Seattle pioneers Earth - and naming a track in honour of their leader Dylan Carlson - Sunn O))) forged even deeper into a realm of reverberating darkness.
