Avant Funk Superband "Caramelizes" the Summer of Love - "A multiracial jam army that freestyles with cool telekinesis between the lustrous menace of Miles Davis' On The Corner, the slash-and-om of 1970s King Crimson, and Jimi Hendrix' moonwalk across side three of Electric Ladyland" (Rolling Stone). The freewheeling New York 9-piece juggernaut Burnt Sugar touches down for three nights, bringing their barely containable mix of euphoric funk, space jazz, power-packed rock, sweet soul and avant-garde experimentation to a program that "caramelizes" the psychedelic music of the 1960s. Formed in 1999 by the late musician and iconic Village Voice writer Greg Tate and co-led with bassist Jared Michael Nickerson, Burnt Sugar built its identity through raucous live performances that honor the spirit of the post-modern masters of American music, from Duke Ellington to Sun Ra, Miles Davis, Parliament/Funkadelic, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The band has set itself apart through extensive use of the directed improvisational concept of "conduction" pioneered by the late cornetist and composer Butch Morris, resulting in stop-on-a-dime cohesion that allows the band to perform like a single, multi-phonic organism.

Formed over a decade ago in Bogota, Colombia by singer Catalina Garca and guitarist Santiago Prieto, the band has cultivated a fervent following by blending the spirit of 1930s music with the joyous and sophisticated sounds of contemporary Latin American pop -- a worldly, boundary-blurring approach places them in the same echelon as contemporaries Natalia Lafourcade, Troker, Carla Morrison, and Bomba Estereo

The STRAY CATS, the band that put Rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early '80s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual 1950's style brought "up to date" with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos and as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979, the trio shared a love for Rockabilly music.

College friends Cy Curnin on vocals and Adam Woods on drums formed the group in London in 1979, initially calling themselves Portraits. The pair placed an ad for additional members, and recruited keyboardist Rupert Greenall, guitarist Tony McGrail and bassist Russell Mckenzie later to be replaced by Charlie Barrett. Portraits issued two singles for Ariola Records: "Little Women" (1979), and "Hazards In The Home" (1980). Later in 1980, McGrail left. At this point, the band added guitarist Jamie West-Oram (formerly of Phillip Rambow's band) and changed their name to The Fix. This version of the band recorded for 101 Records, releasing their first single ("Lost Planes") in February 1981. This track, along with several live tracks issued by 101 on various compilations, received some radio exposure on the BBC. In these early days West-Oram was billed simply as "Jamie West". The Fixx's raised profile eventually led to the group being offered a contract by MCA Records. Worried about the potential drug-user implication of the band's name, MCA insisted on a name change before signing them to the label. A compromise was reached as the band altered the spelling of their name to The Fixx, and a deal was duly inked.

Tropical Charm -Dance Floor Open- "One of the most exciting emerging artists in Latin music" (LA Weekly), the 2015 Latin GRAMMY winner for Best New Artist brings their singular hybrid that merges the simmering French jazz manouche style of Django Reinhardt with dance-inspiring Latin American rhythms and myriad modern influences.

The thirteenth studio album from Old 97's, American Primitive, arose from what vocalist/guitarist Rhett Miller refers to as a "de-evolution" of the legendary Dallas-bred band. "As much as I want us to calm down and grow up, the songs that felt right for this record were mostly big and loud and brutal and dirty," says Miller, whose bandmates include bassist Murry Hammond, guitarist Ken Bethea, and drummer Philip Peeples. Arriving just months before the 30th anniversary of Hitchhike to Rhome--a powerhouse debut that played a vital part in pioneering the alt-country genre--the result is a gloriously rowdy body of work, revealing a veteran band more attuned than ever to the raw and reckless energy of truly timeless rock-and-roll.

He's marking 40 years of performing in the Bay Area, 20 years after the release of his acclaimed Celebrando 20 Anos album which he celebrated at YBG Festival. He'll be presenting original music drawn from his five albums, including 2025's For Export, as well as original unreleased compositions and his expertly arranged versions of classic tunes representing Dominican bachata, Colombian cumbia, merengue and even candombe, the Afro-Uruguayan rhythm rarely heard on Bay Area stages. Songwriters in the round with indie/folk/singer-songwriter artists: Karen Joy Brown Karen Joy Brown's elegantly sparse pop/Americana guitar and deeply soulful voice disarm listeners with raw emotional honesty that inspires reflection and connection. Literate lyrics reveal a poet's soul with a singular sense of rhythm, humor and compassion that leaves listeners feeling uplifted and finally understood. Katie Phillips Singer-songwriter with a voice that stops you in your tracks and songs that stick in your ribcage long after the last note fades. Recognized for her extraordinary vocal gift since childhood, Katie carries her father's words close: that one of life's greatest honors would be using her voice as sacred offering to those she loves. Little Door begins with a simple idea: each person is a portal into deep consciousness, and music is one way to open that door — or leave it ajar. Rooted in psych-folk and cosmic groove, her acoustic performances draw on themes of awakening, motherhood, love, and the tender, unspoken corners of the psyche.

Touring in 2026 behind the Blues Project's Latest Album, LIVE 2025 Back in the good ol' days, adjectives such as "unique", "genuine", "influential", "innovative", "exciting", "dynamic", "incandescent," and "trail-blazing", were often used by peers and music critics to describe the sounds of the Blues Project, arguably the greatest relatively unsung American rock band of the swinging 60s. In the fall of 1965, The Blues Project played alongside the likes of Big Joe Williams, Son House, Bukka White, Skip James, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Otis Spann, to name a few. It was thes legendary sold-out performances at the famed Cafe Au Go Go in Greenwich Village that eventually led to the release of their phenomenal debut album, Live at the Cafe Au Go Go. The Blues Project made a musical revolution, turning many people on to the American blues heritage.

Every summer some of Brazil's greatest musicians gather in the redwoods of Cazadero for California Brazil Camp, and every season several faculty members venture down to the Gardens to share their mesmerizing music. Past concerts have included some of the South American nation's most celebrated artists, such as Monica Salmaso, Teco Cardoso, Guinga and Fabiana Cozza. This year's show, "Brazilian Choro" is led by two masters at the forefront of a virtuosic instrumental tradition that marked Brazil's first African/European musical fusion, clarinetist/composer Alexandre Ribeiro and seven-string guitarist/composer Alessandro Penezzi. Born in late 19th century Rio de Janeiro, choro has undergone repeated revivals over the decades, while influencing almost every subsequent Brazilian idiom, from samba to Brazilian jazz. Frequent performing and recording partners, Penezzi and Ribeiro played an essential role in sparking the choro renaissance of the 1990s. They've forged deep ties to many Bay Area musical Brazilophiles and will be joined by several colleagues for an afternoon of jaw-dropping instrumental interplay.

Live Nation Presents:Will Swinton Live - Fresh off supporting MGK and The Kid LAROI on arena tours across Australia and New Zealand, Capitol Records/10K Projects standout Will Swinton pairs a raspy powerhouse voice with raw, soul-baring songwriting -- just ask Machine Gun Kelly, whom Swinton met by chance at a bar in Idaho in 2022. He'd just sold his car, quit his job at a trampoline park in Auckland, and spent his last savings on a one-way ticket to LA. MGK was intrigued enough to invite him backstage at the Mainstream Sellout Tour to hear his music.m Three years later, Swinton has amassed over 100 million streams, released two EPs, and caught the attention of Kelly Clarkson, who covered his song "Flames" on national TV. He spent the better part of 2025 honing his sound. Now carving out his own brand of rock with recent singles "Only One," "Find A Way," and "Better Off," he heads into 2026 with a Lollapalooza slot and a debut album on the way.

Here are those answers and more! Tomahawk took a break to discover the many truths of the universe. They also uncovered several non truths. They were primarily holed up in a special place similar to the many caves in the mountains of Appalachia. They found time to create the new tunes that make up their new record "Oddfellows" that will be released worldwide in January 2013 on Ipecac Recordings. This is not a reunion....unless that means they will make more money. Tomahawk is Duane Denison (the Jesus Lizard, Unsemble, etc), Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantmas, etc) & John Stanier (Helmet, Battles, etc) and this time around joined by Trevor "field mouse" Dunn ( Mr. Bungle, Fantmas, etc).

BIG SANDY and his FLY-RITE BOYS Dinner Show Since forming in 1988 in Southern California, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world's most beloved Americana/Roots acts, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll's fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75,000 and counting), so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, points the way forward for Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road, and more than two dozen releases to their credit, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit, both on record and in live appearances.

Quicksand: It's impossible to overstate the influence that Quicksand have on the hardcore scene. Formed in New York City in 1990 out of the ashes of Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Burn and Bold, the band took the aggression of hardcore and added a more groove-driven crunch to it, unintentionally inventing the genre known today as a post-hardcore. After releasing two major-label masterpieces in the nineties--1993's Slip and 1995's Manic Compression--the band split up at the peak of their powers, only to reunite in 2012 and release Interiors and Distant Populations. In that spirit, Bring On The Psychics marks a new chapter for Quicksand--guitarist/vocalist Walter Schreifels, drummer Alan Cage and bassist Sergio Vega--by creating a sonic bridge for these two eras of the band. The album is just as heavy as the band's influential nineties sound while retaining the ambitious sense of experimentation from their more recent era

"Let it go, let it go, let it go/When the world is coming down on me/I let it go..." Thirty years, half a million albums, thousands of concerts and headlining festival dates for 10M+ folks and millions of Spotify streams later, New Orleans alt/roots rockers Cowboy Mouth and their devoted, ever growing legion of fans still sing the chorus of their barn-burning jam - a Top 30 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit - like a high octane mantra and mission statement. The band's got other catchy, anthemic singalong favorites like "I Believe" and "Everybody Loves Jill," but to frontman and drummer Fred LeBlanc, "Jenny..." is pretty much the apex of the CM experience - a clarion call to everyone to take all their troubles and worries and just...turn off the radio, lights and video and let them go. Whether they're performing their nearly annual gig at the iconic New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, playing The Windjammer in Isle of Palms, SC or bringing the explosive, celebratory fire that LeBlanc calls their "southern gospel revival without the religion"

In Another Life Tour: Krooked Kings began when Oli Martin, in the midst of leaving the Mormon faith, turned to learning folk covers on his guitar for comfort. Over time, he found friends to play and collaborate with, and as Krooked Kings took shape, the bittersweet solace he'd once found alone in his basement became the foundation of the group's sound. Joined by Paul Colgan, Matt Monosson, Quinn Casper, and Dave Macey, the band developed a distinctive style that blends their varied influences -- from the ornate, biting guitar arrangements of The Strokes to the introspective depth of Bon Iver and the easygoing charm of Peach Pit. The band's debut LP, The Comedown (2021), introduced their mix of catchy, up-tempo indie rock anthems and moody, meditative slow-burners.

This is front-row, spotlight-on, pulse-racing sax seduction. Chris Mitchell doesn't just play the horn -- he commands it. He brings the fire of Coltrane, the edge of Prince, and the soul-deep storytelling of Marvin Gaye, all channeled through one instrument. When Chris steps onstage, he's not performing... he's testifying. Every note is a confession, a celebration, a release. Fans don't just watch his shows -- they feel them. They're on their feet, vibing in the aisles, hands in the air, begging the night not to end. And by the time the last note fades, everyone in the room shares one truth: They're all begging for sax. They're all begging for sax.

Joe's still here. Still going. Still cashing checks and snapping necks. The dues of hard work; the delirious heights of the industry as well as the disappointments and low hanging fruit. Through this all, Joe's only honed his mastery over gut bucket blues guitar and his true voice. It's a vital and distinctly American voice that never anticipated the attention he wound up receiving, never went looking for it either. It just started happening. The Marin County-based songwriter, guitarist, and producer coalesces disparate styles here that he has explored on prior releases. Among those notched in the history books include the Greatest Story Ever Told, for the 50th anniversary of 8/27/72, and Lebo & Friends making the sparks fly in '23. The Breeders - Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson played their first show together on Friday 19th June, 1992, in a snooker hall behind Warrington Rugby Club in the north of England. Two days later, they supported Nirvana in Dublin and Belfast, and then played at Glastonbury. Back in the US, after playing 27 sold-out shows, they made their way to San Francisco to record Last Splash. Released on August 30th 1993, reviewers described Last Splash as, "effervescent," "blistering," and "incoherent." At its centre is the infectiously appealing, instantly recognisable 'Cannonball'. Propelled in part by the video directed by Kim Gordon and Spike Jonze. + Imperial Teen's releases over the past 20+ years have been pointed and specific diaries of musical celebration, windows into the hypersensitive personal drama of relationships within the band, individual conquests and failures, and collective, aspirational hopes, dreams, and perspectives. Roddy Bottum (Faith No More), Will Schwartz, Jone Stebbins, and Lynn Perko Truell--who they've become, how they are dealing, and what their lives are in 2019--all of this is on Imperial Teen's forthcoming release Now We Are Timeless.

Pearl & the Oysters, international adventurers in eclectic pop, crash-landed their starship in Los Angeles in the year 2020. Born and schooled in Paris, the couple launched a nomadic romance fueled by music that would later see them crooning in New York jazz clubs, then wading the swampy waters of American DIY art rock in Gainesville, Florida. Today in L.A., the band's evolving sound complements a buoyant moment in a scene where their brand of space age jazz-pop is more than welcome. Juliette Pearl Davis and Joachim Polack met on the first day of high school in Paris - bespectacled Juju and curlyhaired Jojo, both music-obsessed, nerdy, and drawn together by a "poetic connection" and mutual heroes unusual for high schoolers, like Burt Bacharach, Kurt Weill and especially, Antnio Carlos Jobim. "It's very French of us to be into Brazil, but like, 1960s-French," said Joachim. "When we were kids, it wasn't that cool."

KC Turner Presents Cookout Concert Series: Dale Watson is a living legend of American roots music. With Texas-sized defiance and drive, he's spent four decades flying the flag for his own brand of honky-tonk, outlaw country, western swing, and rockabilly. That signature sound has a name -- "Ameripolitan" -- and its originator is Watson himself: a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, actor, cultural architect, and rule-breaking traditionalist for the modern world, championing the traditions that fly in the face of the homogenous mainstream. With Unwanted, he fires another double-barreled shotgun blast of country twang and honky-tonk bang fueled by the heartaches, hard-won lessons, and high-speed thrills of a life largely logged on the road.

No big deal and a good way to get used to performing for others. But when Jason Bonham was a small child and got called in to entertain, the family friends he played his drums for could be anyone from Jimmy Page to some of the guys from the group Bad Company. Who is the Sky Tour: "At my age, at least for me, there's a 'don't give a shit about what people think' attitude that kicks in," Byrne says. "I can step outside my comfort zone with the knowledge that I kind of know who I am by now and sort of know what I'm doing. That said, every new set of songs, every song even, is a new adventure. There's always a bit of, 'how do I work this?' I've found that not every collaboration works, but often when they do, it's because I'm able to clearly impart what it is I'm trying to do. They hopefully get that, and as a result, we're now joined together heading to the same unknown place."

Nick Waterhouse is a legend in the making, an American guitarist-singer-songwriter who can be found on stages all over the world when he's not in the (analog) studio. Since breaking out with his raw, finger-snapping R&B-infused debut Time's All Gone, he has continued to purvey, with great fervor, a distinctive blend of rhythm and blues, swing, soul, and rock 'n' roll. His music takes you on a trip into an Imagist American city; A convertible-view looking into the California sky under swaying Palms; Avenues and alleyways unfold like movie backlots; A walk down a low-slung brick alley suddenly Memphis or Detroit reveals a rusty old side door, it opens into the shadows of a smoke-filled Manhattan after-hours lounge... and the band plays all through the night.. Existing some place between Link Wray, Bobby Darin, and Little Willie John, and exhibiting a body of work that positions him as spiritual son of forebearers of the American school of Lynch, Waits, or even John Fogarty, he is less a revivalist than a practitioner of Rhythm as modern art.

Nam Amor and Kid Congo Powers met shortly before the pandemic in Tucson, Arizona. When the complete lockdowns hit everybody, Nam, like lots of other musicians, reclused himself in his studio and started experimenting with longtime ideas that were on the shelf. The initial idea was to combine rockabilly/garage electric guitars with electronic drum machines and bass synthesizers, a vague intuition inspired by Link Wray's guitar tones in one hand and the electronic rawness of the band Suicide. After recording a couple tracks, Nam got the idea of inviting Kid to collaborate in the making of some electric guitar "dialogs". The tracks of Tucson Safari display the two different personalities and approaches of Nam and Kid, both passionate electric guitar players, in the form of an exploration through composition and tone. The interwoven layers of guitars reveal the particular harmonic and melodic sense of Nam's sound "dancing" with the unmistakable slide and fuzzy tones of Kid. + BRAD BROOKS that rare quadruple threat of writer, player, singer, and performer. His songs combine the melodic sensibility of Elvis Costello, the best instincts of Wilco and Brian Wilson, the orchestral sophistication of Queen, along w/the Stonesy/Bowie gritty edges of rock/soul.

Son Rompe Pera, Born and raised in Naucalpan, the deep outskirts of Mexico City, the Gama brothers and their band Son Rompe Pera have thrashed through all preconceived notions of what a marimba-centered band is, and have rendered the instrument inseparable from their punk ethos. Their shows have become home to the now-infamous marimba mosh pit across the globe, joining intergenerational audiences in moments of essential release and community around their hard-hitting, forward-thinking, unrelenting punk-infused cumbias. With two critically-acclaimed records under their belt, and hundreds of shows on some of the world's most prestigious stages to a rapidly growing audience, the band consistently proves their boundlessness as far as where they can take the genre, standing vehemently by the fact that traditions are meant to be both honored, broken, and built again.

A pioneering Zambian psychedelic act, W.I.T.C.H. (the name is an acronym, standing for We Intend to Cause Havoc) were one of the defining acts of Zamrock, a fusion of Western rock and rhythm & blues with traditional African sounds. They were among Zambia's most popular and influential bands in the 1970s as a wave of psychedelic and hard rock gained an audience in Africa. A landlocked nation in the South of Africa, Zambia was formerly Northern Rhodesia until gaining its independence in 1964, and as Zambia established its own national identity, local musicians began embracing the progressive influences of artists such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix, as well as the forward-thinking soul and funk sounds of James Brown. By the mid-'70s, Zambia was falling into political chaos as the nation's once-profitable mining industry ran dry, and many Zamrock bands reflected this with a darker, more psychedelicinfluenced sound that suggested a familiarity with the likes of Deep Purple and Grand Funk Railroad. W.I.T.C.H.'s 1972 debut, Introduction, was the first commercial album released by a Zambian band, and they continued to deliver music until fading into dormancy in the mid-'80s. A reissue campaign launched in 2011 brought the band to a new generation of listeners, and W.I.T.C.H. reunited in 2014 and started touring again shortly thereafter. In 2023, they released Zango, their first new album in almost 40 years.

(((folkYEAH!))) & KALW 91.7 FM Present: The OSEES 12 tracks on ABOMINATION REVEALED AT LAST. are a pummeling, maniacal, and propulsive attack on the senses-a fitting reaction to a world suffering from genocide, environmental collapse, state sanctioned violence, progressing technocracy, and more. "Well this album just channelled out of the mist of atrocities swirling around the planet right now," songwriter John Dwyer explains. "AI empathy, genocides, social media data collection & addiction, the alignment of tech billionaires with the fascist overlords and their armada of dogs, civilians being kidnapped by bootlicking thugs, the death of due process...the list goes on and on. It's been a long year already."

KC Turner Presents Cookout Concert Series: Tim Flannery's life has revolved around three constants: family, baseball, and music. These three simple things have become a kind of a holy trinity for Flannery, or Flan as most folks call him. This triad has fortified him since he could swing a bat. He found his calling(s) among them, and he's carved out legacies. When asked which one means more to him, he'll ask you to choose air, water, or food. For Flan, it's all or nothing. After retiring from coaching, Flan did pre- and post-game shows for the Giants and was also an analyst for the MLB Network. He released Three Ring Circus in 2015, Last of the Old Dogs in 2017 and, in 2019, The Light, made its way into the world.
