Maria Taylor is a singer-songwriter and half of the indie-dream pop duo Azure Ray, who has collaborated withBright Eyes, Phoebe Bridgers, Michael Stipe, and Adam Duritz. Taylor began her career in the band Little Red Rocket before forming Azure Ray in 2000. They gained recognition with their debut self-titled album, with songs featured in films and TV shows, most notably the song “Sleep." After meeting the band in Athens, GA, Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst invited the band on tour and introduced them to Saddle Creek Records where Azure Ray released four albums and three EPs. Taylor also lent her voice, piano, and drumming skills to numerous Bright Eyes records during that time. Yellowman was born Winston Foster in Negril, Jamaica, in 1959 (some accounts say 1956). An early target for abuse because of his albinism, he grew up in an institution in Kingston, with little to keep him company besides music. Influenced by early toasting DJs like U-Roy, he practiced rhyming and got a job with the Gemini Sound System as a substitute DJ, christening himself Yellowman and dressing in a bright yellow suit.
