He is also currently co-writing and producing material with Frank Black of The Pixies for an upcoming album. He has built a career that reads like a musical version of Forrest Gump, defined by an unusual series of historical intersections, collaborative projects, and distinct personal milestones. His career began at age eight when he recorded a number one country duet written by Shel Silverstein “Daddy What If” with his father, country singer and country music hall of fame member Bobby Bare Sr. The track earned a Grammy nomination, breaking Michael Jackson’s record for the youngest nominee in history–an achievement Bobby notes makes him better than the King of Pop in every way. Raised in the Nashville music scene, he grew up surrounded by family friends like Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed, and Kris Kristofferson. He lived next door to George Jones and Tammy Wynette, though they never went camping or played golf together. Crucially, in the 90’s his early songwriting was critiqued by Shel Silverstein, helping him develop a lyrical style that balances humor, pain, and anger.
