(((folkYEAH!))) Presents: Soon it will be the 60th anniversary of the FLAMIN’ GROOVIES!! Originating in San Francisco in 1966, they are the rarest of rare. A band from the sixties, who changed course in the seventies, never bowed to any then-current trends, avoided great commercial success, took a break for twenty years, survived it all, and have been going strong for the past twelve. Over the course of the band’s extensive history, they have been described as legendary Fillmore era San Francisco band, as classic rock, power pop, punk rock, garage rock, and a few other categorizations (which are actually all correct). + Penelope Houston and the Jailbirds As a teenager, in 1977, Penelope moved from Seattle to attend the San Francisco Art Institute. Quickly her career in visual arts was side-tracked by the formation of the critically acclaimed proto-punk band, the Avengers + The Phantom Movers, the backup band that played and recorded with former founding Flamin’ Groovies vocalist Roy Loney (RIP) will be performing the songs off Roy’s first solo album, “Out After Dark.” and will feature the original band members, plus amazing vocalist, Jason Morgan (of Harold Ray and the East Side Dynamite.)
