BISS List 02.24.22: Interviews w/ Blue Bear’s Steven Savage & Jay Lane + Karl D at Fillmore

Hey BISS Listers!

What’s this? Two weeks in a row? Yep you bet! This week we’ve got two Blue Bear interviews with founder Steven Savage and artist Jay Lane, and a Karl D Featured Show to share.

But first, I want to share one of our contest entries for this weekend’s ALO shows! It has been a while since Fancy Nancy graced us with one of her fantastic poems as part of her entry to win tickets (along with spreading the word, of course!)… Thank you Fancy! This is a great one! It’s been forever and a day, That a contest I did play.
These years have been so sad, no music made me mad.

But now the lights are shining’, and Fancy’s no longer crying.
Cause smiles are back to greet me, in the venues that are VID free

The contests are amazing, the curtains they are raising.
To showcase tour amour, and not be an amataur.

I’d love to win a set,, ALO’s my favorite alphabet.
To dance and twirl and hug, and cut up that old rug,

I’ll wear my dancing pants, and hoot hip hip hooray,
and Represent my BISS list peeps, cause you always make my day.

Interviews

Next, I want to share with you a double feature interview with two folks from the fabulous Blue Bear School of Music! Thank you to BISS List contributing Editor, Josh Danson for TWO more amazing interviews! The first interview is with the founder of Blue Bear School of Music, Steven Savage. The second interview is with Jay Lane who was a student of Steven Savage back in the day when Blue Bear first started and now teaches at Blue Bear when he isn’t touring with one of his many musical projects. After reading these two interviews, I have no doubt that A) You will be inspired to become a student and/or supporter of Blue Bear and B) You will be sure to catch Jay Lane this weekend for all the shows he is playing in the Bay Area. “I didn’t see him live until 1990 when I was touring with Lenny Kravitz and we opened for him at Dodgers Stadium. David saw me practicing, and as a fellow saxophonist, stopped by to say hi. Oblivious me, still not realizing that this guy would become one of my favorite composers of all time, missed the opportunity to ask some real questions and maybe get to know a real icon. Oh well, better late than never. It is with extreme honor and humility that we present to you, our tribute to one of the greatest of all time, David Bowie.” – KD
