BISS List 4.13.23: Spotlight on The Indy + Best of BISS this Week

Happy Spring (Again) BISS Listers! I have to say it now because the weather FINALLY feels like it! Am I right?

#LastWeekend, there were some really great shows I wanted to go to but I have been pulling extra long hours to prep & advance to work at Golden Road Gathering + Backcountry Festival + Hog Farm Hideaway. However, thanks to our BISS ticket winners who took photos and videos at the shows they won, I still got to check things out.  And now, so can you! Thank you to Jen S for this little glimpse at the epic pairing of Eric Krasno & Stanton Moore at the Chapel on Friday. Thank you to Cody and Lindsay for capturing amazing moments from the Jay Cobb Anderson & Reed Mathis show at BBR on Friday. And a pat on my own back for making it out on Saturday to the BBR to catch both JeNes N The Juice and Fourth Position (w/ special guest JeNes).  #Enjoy #yourewelcome

#ThisWeekend, my favorite artist, Lantz Lazwell & The Vibe Tribe (*WIN*), is back at the Boom Boom Room on Saturday. This band is a party not to be missed! Speaking of a party, this weekend is going to be a long one for many of you with three nights of Phish at The Greek Theater on Mon, Tues, & Wednesday. I know there are lots of After Parties, but did you know about Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe at Cornerstone Berkely on Monday night?  Stone Foxes will kick off the night but Karl is waiting to start until 11 so that we can all make it there to see him. And guess what?! We are giving away tickets to this show!! (*WIN*)

#MarkYourCalendar for the next DangerAte Funktion coming up next week on 4/21 at Amado’s (*WIN*)! I love these Funktion nights because the talent rotates all night long. It’s funk & hip hop and good times. It’s a total flashback to Tuesday nights at Last Day Saloon in the early days of BISS. It’s always a Family Funktion and everyone is invited to join this family. And just like in the old days you gotta stay to the end, cause you don’t know who might show to bless the finalé!

Also next week, there are two great shows at The Indy, The Seshen (4/20) & Hot Buttered Rum & Poor Man’s Whiskey (4/22). And yes, you can win tickets to both. Check it out in the Spotlight on The Indy below!

One more reminder here to get your final entries in for our Skull & Roses contest! Join friends, family, and community “down that highway where ocean breezes blow” and explore unique interpretations of all things Grateful Dead at Skull & Roses V! We are selecting the winners tomorrow, Friday, 4/14 @ 5pm.

But wait, there’s more! This week’s #ListenToThis is “The World” by FliptFunk, which is Nappy G + Soulati + DangerAte. Be sure to check it out below.

As always, check out the Best of BISS section and Win Tickets page. And don’t forget there is always more on the Full Calendar.

The Seshen is a six-piece band whose songs exist between the lines; in the space between waking and dream, ego and collective consciousness, at the blurred horizon where earth meets sea meets sky. Blending live and digital instrumentation to create three-dimensional, transportive sound with cerebral yet danceable rhythms.

Hot Buttered Rum & Poor Man’s Whiskey

April 22nd @ The Independent

Win Tickets

Newgrass jam band Hot Buttered Rum have been described as a rock band playing bluegrass instruments. With musical influences ranging from blues, rock, and jazz to Celtic and old-time string music from the Appalachians to create what they call “high altitude California bluegrass.”

Poor Man’s Whiskey blends high octane old-time/bluegrass music with a psychedelic blues/jam rock style. Transitioning between acoustic and electric styles with a carefully crafted commitment to well songs and stories, while maintaining an exciting element of improvisation and the openness to let a song expand.

LISTEN TO THIS

Listen to “The World” by FliptFunk. Grammy Award winner Tommy “Soulati” Shepherd (Alphabet Rockers, Felonious, Antique Naked Soul) and Grammy Award nominee Gordon “Nappy G” Clay (Groove Collective, Turntables on the Hudson) present “The World”, produced by the Bay Area’s own Daniel “The D3” Cohen and featuring JazSFunk band DangerAte.

This song is the debut of a new project consisting of Soulati and Nappy G, FliptFunk, a Sound System-style collaboration mixing classic stylings with modern production by incorporating Soulati, Nappy G, and The D3’s backgrounds as drummers and percussionists with elements of jazz, funk, RnB, soul, and hip hop.

The D3 says of this project, “This project has all the fixings of a true modern classic. Very few artists out there today make music for everybody; this cut’s got something for everyone, no matter who you are or where you came from, and all of us involved are incredibly proud to present it to The World.”

Be sure to check out A DangerAte Funktion, April 21st @ Amados. Live music featuring Genesseve, MC Subversie, Lil Flower Nasti, Michael Carney, Jamie Brown, N’Gala McCoy, and Dj Renoir – with a Cypher Finale.
