BISS List 7.26.23: Spotlight on Two Good Causes + Best of BISS this Week

Hello BISS Listers and Happy Hump Day!

For those of you who read the BISS List last week, you may have checked out my posts with videos and pictures from the Dead All Day and Night of the week prior… It took me until just this week to get the videos uploaded to those posts in part because I was “blocked temporarily”. I guess I overloaded the system 😉 It’s all uploaded now!

#LastWeek, on Thursday, the Disco Biscuits returned to the Fillmore for the first time in 14 years. They did not disappoint their biggest fans. They did not disappoint! I captured a little for you here. After the Biscuits show ended at the Fillmore, The Boom Boom Room had a special treat for us with ETHNO (aka Jeff Franca of Thievery Corporation ) which you can check out here.

#ThisWeek, I am heading out of town for work (yes, again). However, if I were in town, I would definitely be at The Indy this Friday, 7/28, as Sunshine of Love presents their Summer MiniFest w/ Smoked Out Soul, Pamela’s Parker’s Fantastic Machine. I would also definitely be attending the Ween show at the Fox on Saturday, 7/29.

Saturday, 8/5: Go Big For Hunger presents Tom Constanten & Friends with Mark Karan, Wally Ingram, Scott Guberman and Burt Lewis (*WIN*) (More in the Spotlight below!)

SPOTLIGHT ON TWO GOOD CAUSES

Afrolicious Party Reunion: A Benefit for Diamond Vibes

August 10th @ Rickshaw Stop

Some of the best of the Bay Area gather for this Party Reunion, featuring a live set from Afrolicious + DJ sets by Zebuel (of Smoked Out Soul), Will Magid (of Balkan Bump), and Izzy Wize + more special guests.

This show is a benefit for Afrolicious vocalist and percussionist Diamond Vibes who recently suffered a stroke as well as complications from a failing kidney. He is currently on a waiting list for a kidney transplant and will be responsible for the costs that his insurance doesn’t cover. Despite these challenges, Diamond continues to keep a loving and positive spirit, which is a trademark of this man! He still sees a bright future ahead even though the path is steep and challenging. All proceeds and donations from this event will go toward his medical expenses. A GoFundMe has also been set up to support Diamond.

Jerry Day After-Party w/ Tom Constanten & Friends

August 5th @ Savoy Tivoli

Continue the Jerry Day celebration with this afterparty in North Beach featuring Tom Constanten & his friends Mark Karan, Wally Ingram, Scott Guberman, and Burt Lewis. The night starts with a Dead set from Bumford and Sons featuring Ted Silverman, followed by two sets from TC & Friends. Liquid Steve will be spicing things up with a special Jerry Garcia slideshow tribute, not to be missed!!

This event is a fundraiser for Go Big For Hunger, an organization committed to helping kids living with food insecurity by implementing creative fundraising solutions. Founded in 2016 by live music madman Greg Martens, Go Big for Hunger is an all-volunteer effort with 100% of every donation going directly to supporting frontline feeding of kids and building the network that’s required to sustain the fight against childhood hunger. You can also catch TC & Friends during the rest of Go Big For Hunger’s Days Between Cali Run events.

Listen to “Funky Family” by Them Vibes, which will be included on their soon to be released album Sonic Chameleonic (available on all platforms on September 1st!).

Formed and honed in East Nashville by lead singer Brother Love and guitar player Alex Haddad and with the helping hand of a powerhouse rhythm section, Them Vibes shook the foundations of Music City with their blitzkrieg live shows, funked up and far-out sound, and soulful songwriting. Their upcoming record called Sonic Chameleonic is exactly that: a kaleidoscopic bang of color and sound, one organic musical force sonically color-defying with every track.

The band hopes to come out to the Bay Area soon, BISS List will keep you posted on any upcoming shows!
