LISTEN TO THIS
Listen to “Down on the Farm” by The New Mastersounds, from their album Old School (Released 2024)
“Down on the Farm” breaks free as the only vocal track on The New Mastersounds’ new album. A catchy call-and-response of “What you say, what you do” sets the groove. This track is pure NMS gold, a head-bobbing, foot-stomping anthem that ushers in the album’s focus on the mighty organ.
We spoke with drummer Simon Allen and he told us about the song and the experience recording the album. “This is a JB’s style groove with a simple vocal hook that people can join in with at the shows. The album recording was a relaxed and easy process – we had just played a festival show in France and three club shows in the UK so we were tuned up, so to speak, as a unit. But because we hadn’t seen each other prior to that for nearly five months there was plenty of stored-up creativity to be tapped. We were in Joe’s living room at his home in the remote English countryside. Out of the window, through the July drizzle, we could see a field of cows. Hence the title of this tune. It’s just Eddie, Pete, Joe, and me doing what comes naturally when we get in a room together and hit the record button. After 25 years.”
Simon also shared a video with us of Joe overdubbing his organ part conducted by Eddie. Check it out now!
You can catch The New Mastersounds this Saturday 4/20 @ The Fillmore!
