BISS List 11.20.25 Spotlight on Grateful Waltz (11.26) + The Best of BISS This Week

Happy Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, BISS Listers! 💜

Today, we celebrate the women who build, create, and lift our communities. Women drive most global spending yet earn only a small share of the world’s income, which is why supporting women-led work matters. And in live music, so many of the artists and creators moving the culture forward are women.

And if you are looking to support a woman entrepreneur this season, well, you are reading the work of one right now. I kicked off my end-of-year fundraising campaign for the BISS List this week, and you should have received an email on Tuesday with what we’ve accomplished in 2025, how we made it happen, and how you can partner with us to keep this community strong. If you missed it, now is a great time to take a look and join in. Every bit of support helps keep the music moving.

Thu 11/13: GLIDE 40th Annual Holiday Jam and Benefit Auction @ The Warfield – A powerful night of inspiration with standout moments from Marvin K. White, Dominique Hammons, Ruby Ibarra, El DeBarge, and an emotional Lizzie Glide Spirit Award for Joan Baez. Here is a photo gallery from Gabriel David Barkin and you can catch my video moments.
Fri 11/14: Game Night @ Manny’s Cafe – A cozy night of analog fun with live music from Jordan Feinstein and Aaron Kaplan and a full room sing-along during Name That Tune that absolutely lit up the night. I grabbed some fun clips too.
Sat 11/15: Casey’s 50th Celebration @ Felton – A joyful birthday gathering with great friends, an overnight escape, and a gorgeous soundtrack from Lebo and Reed Mathis with special sit-ins from Josh Gelfand. Take a peek at a few of my videos.
Mon 11/24: David Byrne @ Bill Graham Civic. If you ask anyone who went to any of these three shows, they will tell you they were amazing! For a bit of taste, check out Gabriel David Barkin’s gorgeous photo gallery from Monday’s show! And tune in next week for my videos from the Tuesday show!

SPOTLIGHT ON GRATEFUL WALTZ

Anna’s 2nd Annual Grateful Waltz

For many music lovers, watching Scorsese’s The Last Waltz on Thanksgiving has become a cherished tradition. A yearly return to The Band’s legendary performance, filmed on Thanksgiving Day in San Francisco. Building on that spirit, Anna Elva’s Grateful Waltz is growing into its own Thanksgiving Eve tradition. Anna is a huge fan of The Band, which may not come as a surprise, since her son, Levon, is named after the drummer. It seemed an obvious choice to take two of her favorites (The Band & the Grateful Dead) and combine them into an epic “Grateful Waltz”.

The Last Waltz is special because it features not only the core band, but lots of special guests. In that spirit this event is packed with a lineup that embodies the all-star, guest-filled energy that made The Last Waltz unforgettable. This year includes double keyboards with Scott Guberman and Danny Eisenberg, and three guitarists: Mark Karan, Matt Hartle, plus special guest Reed Mathis. Melody Walker and Jacob Groopman from Bertha (Grateful Drag) are coming all the way in from Nashville, plus the best father-daughter duo in the West, Hattie Craven and Joe Craven.
