BISS List 9.2.26 Spotlight on Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy Burning Man to everyone heading to the playa… and happy September to the rest of us!

Is it just me, or has the energy been a little… weird lately? Some say it was the eclipse. Maybe there’s something to it. Maybe not. Who knows? Either way, music has been doing what it always does for me, bringing me back to myself.

Last week, Train took over Haight Street right here in my neighborhood on Thursday, and About San Francisco has the full show on YouTube if you missed it. Friday night was The Greyboy Allstars at The Castro Theatre, where they pulled out the floor seats and turned it into one big dance party. It was fantastic to see so many friends’ faces and celebrate so many of our birthdays together.

I watched the band a little differently after my recent conversation with Robert Walter, where he talked about taking chances, responding to other musicians, and the mutual respect within Greyboy. I saw it all playing out in real time through the smiles, the looks, and those moments when someone did something unexpected, and the rest of the band immediately responded.

I’m putting new energy into the BISS List YouTube channel. More people I know are stepping away from social media, so I’m building up YouTube too. I’ll be adding fresh videos and digging into the archives, so make sure you are following BISS List on YouTube so you don’t miss any of it.

Also opening this week, Forever Grateful takes over the Hall of Flowers in Golden Gate Park from September 5 through October 25, with the original Furthur bus, Jerry Garcia’s BMW, art, music, history, and more. Our friends at Love on Haight are creating the retail experience, including a limited Forever Grateful collection made in California.

Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival

Sept 19th & 20th @ Old Mill Park

The 69th Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival has unveiled an eclectic lineup of acclaimed Bay Area musicians, bringing two full days of live performances to the towering redwoods of Old Mill Park.

Included with festival admission, the performances complement one of Northern California’s premier outdoor arts festivals, where visitors can also explore exceptional work from 135 talented juried artists, enjoy family activities, food, wine tasting, and interactive community experiences.

Drawing on the Bay Area’s rich musical heritage, this year’s lineup spans bluegrass, folk, Americana, Celtic, jazz, rock, and singer-songwriter traditions, featuring legendary performers alongside rising regional artists. As a special festival highlight, longtime members of the extended Grateful Dead family Mark Karan and Barry Sless will celebrate the life and legacy of Grateful Dead co-founder and Mill Valley resident Bob Weir during their performances. From bluegrass legends and Celtic soul to Americana favorites, jazz, and Grateful Dead-inspired rock, the festival’s main stage offers something for every music lover.
