BISS List 1.10.24: Spotlight on moe. (1.20 & 1.21) + Best of BISS this Week

Wake up BISS Listers!

Is it just me, or is everyone still stuck in post-New Year’s hibernation mode? I swear, tumbleweeds could roll down Fillmore Street and nobody would bat an eyelid. I gotta admit, I might be responsible for some of that quietude. Turns out, forgetting Friday was Friday will do that to you. (I had previously planned on Boombox at The Indy this past Friday but completely spaced that the day was Friday!)

But hey, at least I managed to squeeze some epic hangs and live music into my recovery plan by Saturday! Saturday afternoon was all about Bill Graham’s Birthday Brunch at the Fillmore with the OG BGP crew. It was really nice to exchange so many hugs with so many beautiful folks I haven’t see in so long! Then I rallied like a champ and kept it going. Saturday night was all about the Booms: Boombox at The Independent, then straight to the Boom Boom Room for Boom Squad. Talk about a triple-boom of good times! Boom! *BTW, did you happen to catch BISS List Live on Instagram from the shows? Follow us there and keep up! @bisslist

Speaking of Boom Boom Room, make sure to check out and watch their calendar for 2024. They are bringing live music back on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to Th-Sat. The times, they are a changing, back to what they used to be — Phew!

But enough about last week, let’s get pumped for THIS week in the Bay Area. We are starting with Dustbowl Revivals funky roots and diverse inspirations at Sweetwater on Wednesday (*WIN*). Thursday? It’s all about Object Heavy and Boot Juice bringing’ heavy grooves, sweet soul and boot stompin’ righteous rhythms and cosmic jam to The Indy (*WIN*) with support from Litty Debungus. On Friday (and Thursday) Yonder Mountain is coming to the Sweetwater (*WIN*) and they are ready to take you on a sonic mountain trek with their rock, funk, jazz, & bluegrass which we just like to call “jamgrass”. ++Be sure to say Happy Birthday to Lindsay on Friday night! Then Saturday, Con Brio featuring Viveka Hawkins is gonna bring the heat back to The Indy with their soulful vocals, blend of rock and roll & high energy funk & R&B.

Of course, if all of that just ain’t your jam and you need even more options️ there are a ton other shows waiting to be discovered on the BISS List! So check out the Best of BISS section with our show picks of the week (and for next week) and Win Tickets page on our site. And don’t forget there is always more on the Full Calendar.

This week might be starting slow, but trust me, the music scene is about to explode. Get ready to dust off your dancing shoes, grab your friends, and dive headfirst into the good vibes!

LISTEN TO THIS

Listen to “I Don’t Need Nothin” by Boot Juice from the album The Right Place (Released 2023).

We spoke with Boot Juice founding member Connor Herdt about “I Don’t Need Nothin” and he said, “Of the songs on the album, this one came together the quickest and the most naturally for me. I love the way that this recording came out! The band did a great job of arranging their parts and I think that everyone gets to shine on this song. The horn section really added a lot to it. It is my attempt at a doo-op style love song: multiple melodic hooks played over a simple chord progression with a lot of vocal and horn harmonies. The lyrics are about appreciating the love I have for my partner over many years, through thick and thin. It is a reminder to myself that at the end of the day, that’s really all I need.”

You can catch Boot Juice with Object Heavy tomorrow (1/11) at the Independent (*WIN*). Connor told us that Boot Juice are “very excited to be joining Object Heavy on this run of shows! It’s been a pleasure getting to know these guys and we are looking forward to making our debut at The Independent in San Francisco with them. It’s a venue that we’ve been looking forward to playing for a long time and it really adds some energy to the show to be alongside a great co-headliner.”
