BISS List 2.8.23: Balkan Bump + Lantz Lazwell + Best of BISS this Week

Happy (Almost) Valentine’s Day BISS Listers!

Speaking of love, I LOVE Eddie Roberts. I don’t care if it’s Matador Soul Sounds, West Coast Sounds, New Mastersounds or Rare Sounds. This past weekend, Eddie’s Sounds went beyond with the epic vocal stylings of Miss Adryon de León. For those of you who were present and asked me how to spell her name, there it is. Yes. It should sound familiar from her days of performing with ORGŌNE. BUT you mark my words, you will be seeing and hearing from her very soon in her new solo career!

Speaking of ORGŌNE, I already told you all last week that they are playing two shows this weekend in the Bay Area with support from Object Heavy. I am here to remind you again! This Saturday, 2/11 you can join me and my crew at The Indy for ORGŌNE+ Object Heavy (*WIN*). For those of you further south, you can also catch this lineup on Friday, 2/10 at Moe’s Alley (*WIN*). There are lots of other shows you don’t wanna miss this weekend! Be sure to check them out in the Best of BISS section below!

Then next Tuesday is Valentine’s Day and we are going to celebrate with our crew of friends around town. We are starting at Union Square at 4pm with the 5th annual Goat My Valentine (G.M.V.), a community event and happy hour. Join us for a GOAT Fashion Show this Valentine’s Day 2023 from 4-6pm in the heart of San Francisco. The GOATS (Greatest of All Time) of San Francisco cultural scene will be on display with the goats who manicure the city. Brought to you by our friends at Value Culture. Then at 6pm, we will head to the Embarcadero in front of Ferry Building for the annual SF Valentine’s Day PILLOW FIGHT!! Roses are red, Violets are blue, Valentine’s Day really bites, So come join us at the pillow fight 😉

These are my thoughts at first glance but of course, we will discuss it again in next week’s edition of BISS.

Balkan Bump

Balkan Bump is the global electronic music project orchestrated by trumpet player, producer, and ethnomusicologist Will Magid. Balkan Bump’s music fuses heavy electronic production with global music influences including traditional Balkan brass melodies, Middle Eastern sounds, and American hip hop. The live show highlights Magid’s expertise as an orchestrator, ranging in size from a solo performer to a 12-piece band featuring a menagerie of global instruments including sitar, saz, oud, clarinet, and trumpet.

Lantz Lazwell & The Vibe Tribe

Lantz Lazwell and the Vibe Tribe grab hold like a purple feathered Boa constrictor, delving into unexpected regions of Funk, Soul, blues, and jam Rock. If you thought this band was a party in the past, now with the addition of a horn section, they are a downright dance floor killah! Slaying reinvented covers and owning instantly lovable originals, they will leave jaws agape while keeping the dance floor humming.

We’ll be celebrating Lantz’s birthday at this Boom Boom Room Birthday Extravaganza show featuring an outstanding cast of special guests including RonKat (PFunk Allstars), Ben Misterka (Lyrics Born), Jordan Feinstein, Byron Colburn, Trevor Ready, Noelle Glory, and Cory Fitch. And you never know who else might join in…

LISTEN TO THIS

Listen to “Show Me,” from The Humidor’s new album of the same title. This song was written as a direct homage to James Brown & Sharon Jones; its about making sure the person you have feelings for is more than just a fantasy- have something going for you!

This EP, Show Me, is a credit to all artists that persevered through the pandemic. They had a transformation of sorts, and the release of this EP represents the dedication to our craft, for the sake of art.

You can catch the Humidors in SF with The Fell Swoop + Chill Clinton opening on March 18th at the Rickshaw Stop (*WIN*). Or up north in Reno at the Peppermill Casino from Feb. 23-25
