Update from BISS

02 March 2023

BISS List 3.2.23: North Mississippi Allstars (3.9-3.11) + Best of BISS this Week

Happy Women’s History Month!  Yes. March is Women’s History Month, and it’s a great time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women from all walks of life. From the suffragettes who fought for their right to vote over 100 years ago, to the pioneering female scientists, entrepreneurs, and activists who are making waves today – we should be proud of what we have accomplished.

#Lastweekend, we were lucky enough to witness the debut of “THE ANNIVERSARY SHOW” for Pink Talking Fish at The Guild Theatre (2.25.23)! The show was out of this world. 1st Set – Dark Side Of The Moon.  2nd Set – Stop Making Sense.  Encore – All Phish.  It was an epic experience!

#ThisWeekend, Sweetwater Music Hall will be hosting Pink Talking Fish this Saturday, March 4th, so you can check them out for yourself, live and in person!

Also this weekend, I know you all know this already, but #ICYMI, Galactic is here two nights at The Fillmore. Thank you to everyone who put in such great efforts to spread the word. I wish we could let every one of you #WinTickets. HOWEVER, we could only have two winners and only for Friday. Congrats to Sean S and Dee-Ann M!  Tickets are still for sale for both Fri, 3/3 and Sat, 3/4 but based on the number of entries I saw on this one, I know they will both sell out for sure! BTW, have you checked out Galactic’s new album, Tchompitoulas?

Both nights, I know you were already planning to head across the street to the Boom Boom Room. Friday is Oakadelic + Super Greens….

Saturday Night, The After Galactic After-Party at The Boom Boom Room is extra special to me because, my most favorite artist at the moment, Lantz Lazwell & The Vibe Tribe, will be holding down the late night after party. You need to be there! Yep. I am completely biased here. #BISS

As always, check out the Best of BISS section below for MORE good stuff.

#MarkYourCalendar for North Mississippi All-Stars, playing three shows in the Bay Area next week but I hear tickets are going fast! More below…

But wait, there’s more! Check out this week’s Listen To This with ‘Hot Damn” by ALO and get ready to celebrate 25 years of Tour d’Amour with them later this month!

SPOTLIGHT ON FAMILY TIES

North Mississippi Allstars

March 9th @ Sweetwater Music Hall

March 10th @ The Independent

March 11th @ Felton Music Hall

Nothing runs deeper than family ties. Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters understand one another at the purest level. When families rally around music, they speak this oft-unspoken bond aloud and into existence. As legend has it, Luther and Cody Dickinson started the band in 1996 as a loose collective of like-minded second-generation musicians who shared a local repertoire and regional style. They picked up this wisdom by osmosis. As sons of legendary producer and musician Jim Dickinson, Luther and Cody have been producing records themselves since they were teenagers. “We learned an enormous amount from our father,” Luther says, “Cody and I made mistakes, but we’ve always believed in ourselves, and we had to learn for ourselves. Rock ‘n’ roll is self-taught. Each generation has to reinvent itself and shed the skin of the elders. We feel as if we’ve once again ‘broken the code,’ and know what we want and how to get it.”

LISTEN TO THIS

Listen to “Hot Damn” by ALO from their upcoming album Silver Saturdays due out March 3rd. The making of this record was a reconnection and a recalibration of what it means to be in ALO.

“Hot Damn” is just a peek at what’s to come. As Zach Gill says: “Hot Damn is the eureka moment, the soulful epiphany, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. As we behold our respective treasures, be they love, wisdom or an actual chest full of gold, we say to ourselves “Hot Damn!”

After 25 years as a band, ALO will be donning their silver suits to celebrate this milestone at this year’s Tour d’Amour XVI with a huge anniversary party at The FIllmore on March 25th. (See more tour dates)

You can watch the music video for “Hot Damn” here: https://alo.lnk.to/HotDamnVideo. And pre-order the album Silver Saturdays, including limited 180g Clear vinyl here: https://ALO.lnk.to/SilverSaturdays
