BISS List 3.29.23: Skull & Roses Fest + Best of BISS this Week
Happy Spring, BISS Listers! Even if it’s raining and cold in the Bay Area, we have great music to keep us dancing and warm.
#LastWeekend, I went to more shows in a row than in a long while. I may not be able to keep up with this video & photo thing here if things continue to ramp up as they have. (Interns? Interns?) In the interest of time, here’s a quick recap… On Thursday, DJ Williams played at BBR. On Friday, Scary Pockets (+David Ryan Harris) played at Fillmore. Then, Oakadelic played at BBR. Saturday, Love Mischief @ BBR then Marshall House Project at BBR. The big silver prize for the weekend goes to ALO, who blew everyone away at their 25th anniversary party at The Fillmore!
#ThisWeekend, my number 1 pick is for Friday, with Toubab Krewe (+Object Heavy) at BBR (*WIN*). This is bound to be pretty special with two power house bands in the small intimate space we love, the one and only Boom Boom Room in SF. For more of the “Best of” the week, be sure to check the Best Of BISS below!
#MarkYourCalendar because while it still feels like winter, spring is here, and festival season is upon us! Skull and Roses (4/19-4/23) is going to give you the ultimate Greateful Dead Experience, and it’s just a few weeks away! And yes, we have tickets for you (more in the spotlight below)! In May, Golden Road Gathering (5/12-5/14) is bringing the Funk, Soul & Jam (See BISS 3/9/23), And looking ahead to June, Hog Farm Hideaway (6/9-6/11) with three full nights of String Cheese + funk, jam & bluegrass all weekend! #festivaaaaal!
But wait, there’s more! This week’s #ListenToThis is Live For Tomorrow by ORGŌNE. Be sure to check it out below!
As always, check out the Best of BISS section and Win Tickets page. And don’t forget there is always more on the Full Calendar.

SPOTLIGHT ON TRUCKING TO VENTURA
Skull & Roses Festival
April 19th – 23rd @ Ventura County Fairgrounds
Join friends, family, and community “down that highway where ocean breezes blow” and explore unique interpretations of all things Grateful Dead at Skull & Roses V! Phil Lesh & Friends are back with two headlining performances over two days. Dark Star Orchestra will once again perform an epic Grateful Dead set with their own unique twist. Oteil & Friends return for their third appearance, along with first timers Leftover Salmon, and for the fifth time, Melvin Seals & JGB!
Continuous music on a turntable stage will take place at the same seaside site where eleven legendary Grateful Dead concerts transpired from 1982-1987. This expanded 5-day celebration will feature daily themes, a heady Shakedown Street, a new Oasis to cool off and rejuvenate, plus local beer and expanded food vendors to keep fans “dancing in the streets” all week long.
And we’ve got a pair of tickets to giveaway for this one! Spread the word about this festival in as many places and as many times as you can, be sure to tag the festival and at least three of your fave bands in your posts, shares, emails & texts. Quality & Quantity of shares will increase your chances to WIN! Enter via the form or email biss@bisslist.com to let us know each time you share.

LISTEN TO THIS
Listen to “Live for Tomorrow” by ORGŌNE ft Lakan, the latest release from Resonance, their monthly single series. Watch for more to come in this series!
On “Live for Tomorrow”, Lakan’s dusty, emotive, & gritty vocals elevate, uplift, and soar over deep-hitting drums while punchy horns take the listener higher in this stirring anthem inspired by early 70s southern soul.
ORGŌNE is a long time favorite of BISS List, and we highly recommend you also check out their latest album release, Lost Knights!
You have two opportunities to experience the amazing soulful & funky stylings of ORGŌNE *LIVE* in Northern California at two extraordinary upcoming festivals. The first is the Golden Road Gathering in Placerville (5/12-5/14) and the second is at Hog Farm Hideaway in Laytonville (6/9-6/12). Tickets available now for both fests!
Why should you “Listen to This”? – BISS (Because I Said So). In honor of our tenth week of “Listen To This”, we are releasing the Spotify playlist with all ten songs! #moretocome
