BISS List 6.8.23: Spotlight on High Sierra (6.29-7.2) + Best of BISS this Week

Happy National Best Friends Day, a great day to make plans to see live music with your bestie!

Jenni here again, filling in for Miss BISS again while she is at Hog Farm Hideaway.

#LastWeek, Pamela was at BackCountry Festival, I spoke to her briefly while she was en route to Hog Farm Hideway, and she said it was a fun fest with an awesome crew, and a great opportunity to see country bands that she might not usually (with some hints of the funk we all love mixed in). Last weekend I was away visiting family in Grass Valley and bummed to miss out on Sgt Splendor’s Record Release @ Bottom of the Hill, I heard it was an amazing show!

#ThisWeekend, on Friday I’ll be at Afrolicious’s Triumphant Return Show @ Boom Boom Room (*WIN*). I’m also excited for Ozomatli @ The Chapel (*WIN*) on both Friday and Saturday, and Royal Jelly Jive @ The Independent (*WIN*) on Saturday.

#NextWeek there is lots to look forward to with Southern Culture on the Skids @ Sweetwater Music Hall (6/16) (*WIN*), Polyrhythmics @ Brick and Mortar Music Hall (6/17), St. Paul & The Broken Bones @ Blue Note Napa (6/18) (*WIN*), and Stern Grove Festival kicks off the season with Snarky Puppy (6/18).

High Sierra Music Festival

June 29th – July 2nd @ Plumas County Fairgrounds

High Sierra Music Festival boasts a family-friendly atmosphere packed with artists traversing all musical genres. This year is the 31st Annual Festival and boasts an eclectic lineup at the festival backed by a picturesque venue surrounded by a mountainous landscape and national forests. More than just music is offered at the High Sierra with yoga areas, audience-participation parades, children’s areas, and more.

Line-up features: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Thievery Corporation, Marcus King, Moe., Cory Wong, Galactic, The DelMcCoury Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, Lebo & Friends, Dumpstaphunk, Dopapod, The Nth Power, Circles Around the Sun, Polyrhythmics, Diggin Dirt, Boot Juice, Con Brio, Jerry’s Middle Finger, New Monsoon, Will Bernard & The Freelance Subversives, and much more.

Listen to “Look At Me” by Cory Wong featuring Allen Stone, the lead single from Cory Won’s upcoming album Lucky One.

Cory Wong had this to say about the collaboration, “I’ve been a fan of Allen Stone’s work for years. He’s one of the greatest singers of our time, and we’ve tried to work on something for a while now. The fun part for me was finishing the production of it and building the music and sonic bed that Allen’s vocal sits on top of. I wanted to try some classic recording techniques with my guitar, bass, horns, and drums; but I also wanted to experiment with some guitar tracking techniques that would make the guitar feel more like a pulsing synth. The results turned out to be incredible and I’m excited for this song to finally be out in the world!” And Allen Stone said, “This track was a blast to make. I’ve been dying for the chance to work with Cory. The song basically wrote itself and luckily Cory was pumped about the top line.”

You can catch Cory Wong later this month at High Sierra Music Festival, and Lucky One will be released later this year.
