BISS List 9.5.24: Spotlight on Cool Cool Cool (9.12) + Best of BISS this Week
Happy Holiday Weekend Recovery, BISS Listers!
I hope everyone had a fantastic time this past weekend, whether you were at Burning Man, catching Phish at Dick’s, or just enjoying the long Labor Day weekend.
First and foremost, a massive thank you to everyone who came out for my B&B Happy Hour—aka “Birthday and BISS List, A Toast to the Future.” If you read last week’s BISS List, you know that there was a big reveal during the event. Drumroll, please… We’ve officially launched a Patreon page! Not only that, but we’re also making plans to turn the BISS List into a non-profit. You can find all the juicy details on our Patreon page.
The Happy Hour was an absolute blast! The turnout was amazing—I was surrounded by so many wonderful people. The restaurant, run by the sweetest ladies, set the perfect vibe for the evening. The band at Sheba singing me happy birthday was just the cherry on top! Seeing so many familiar faces really warmed my heart. It was the perfect start to the night.
From there, we headed over to the Boom Boom Room, just two blocks up the street, and wow, the night just kept getting better. More friends, more familiar faces, and an absolutely stellar performance by TEN. For those who don’t know, TEN stands for Thomas Pridgen, Eric McFadden, and Norwood Fisher. They were joined by the incredible Danny Eisenberg throughout the show and the talented Kate Vargas, not to mention another one of my faves, Mr. Ronkat Speakman! They played one of my favorite Eric songs, and Kate sat in for my favorite Kate song. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Then they busted into Happy Birthday at the end of a Parliament Funkadelic tune, and I swear, my face hurt from smiling so much. See for yourself! I didn’t capture so much of this night because I was “in it.” If you were there and want to share, please send me links to your posts! Thank you to Jenni for capturing the bday song!!
A special shoutout to Red Hot Mama for being by my side and supporting me throughout the entire weekend—especially for helping me out with my hand injury. Your love and support meant the world to me.
After all that fun on Friday, we made it back to the Boom Boom Room on Saturday by 9 PM to catch DangerAte opening up the night (yes, really, 9pm). Then Alphabet Soup took the stage and absolutely killed it! Check out a bit of both sets here. It was a rare weekend filled with amazing bands and unforgettable moments. The Boom Boom Room really brought it this weekend, and I was so lucky to be a part of it.
Last night, Jenni and I had a blast at The Chapel! The Polyphonic Spree transformed the venue into a sonic wonderland. With a lineup of 16 members, the stage was filled with an orchestral choir that truly left me in awe. The expansive sound, with sweeping strings, horns, and harmonies, felt almost otherworldly, and at times, the influence of David Bowie was undeniable. Check it out here.

SPOTLIGHT ON COOL X 3
Cool Cool Cool
Sept 12th @ Boom Boom Room
Cool Cool Cool blends the best of Funk, House, and R&B to create a sound that is truly unique. With dynamic female-led vocals, a tight horn section, swirling synths, and a rhythm section that lays down a wicked groove, this band knows how to deliver an electrifying performance. When you see Cool Cool Cool in person, you’ll be swept up by the energy of their music and unforgettable live show.
Chris Brouwers, Craig Brodhead, Greg Sanderson, Sammi Garett, and Shira Elias spent more than a decade traveling the world together with the touring act Turkuaz. When Turkauz disbanded, it allowed time for some independent projects, but the shared history proved too viable and boisterous to truly walk away, and they quickly found themselves starting an entirely new project. Most recently, you may have seen the members of Cool Cool Cool joining Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew on their Remain In Light Tour. This will be Cool Cool Cool’s first time performing at the Boom Boom Room. This band is blowing up and this may be one of your last opportunities to see them in such an intimate setting. You won’t want to miss it!
