BISS List 11.30.23: Spotlight on NYE 2024 + Best of BISS this Week

#ThisPastSaturday was one for the books, Just for the Funk of It at The Fox started off with Dumpstaphunk, followed by Fishbone and then Parlament Funkadelic featuring the one and only George Clinton. What a night! And the night didn’t stop there, we headed over to BBR for Eric McFadden & Friends who played late into the night, with RonKat sitting in – awesome!

#NextWeek, I hope to see you at the BISS Holiday Cocktail Party on December 6th, we’ll be kicking off the holidays at The Fishbowl!!

#LookingAhead, it’s time to start solidifying those New Year’s Eve weekend plans. I’m personally going to Karl Denson’s Annual Birthday Bash at The Fillmore on the 29th. On the 30th I’ll be at Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew: Remain In Light w/ X at the Warfield (*WIN*), followed by LAZWELL’s tribute to Ziggy Stardust at Boom Boom Room (*WIN*). For those interested in Karl D’s Bday Bash, take note that there will be a second show on the 30th, and for our Napa friends, Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew: Remain In Light w/ X will also be at Jam Cellars Ballroom on NYE (*WIN*). As far as my NYE plans on the 31st, I still haven’t quite decided. For the rest of you who haven’t nailed down a plan yet, we’ve got a list of BISS picks for NYE weekend in the feature below!

John Michael Bradford showcases his funk/Nola roots with this single. This song is about not letting people weigh you down and understanding your own greatness. This song shares a little bit of John’s personal experience: “I wanted to write a song about some things I was going through in my own journey as a young man and artist. Music is healing and this song helped me get some things off my chest. I chose to use some members of Dumpstaphunk since I began touring with them and before I knew it each member was featured on the track. It’s always an honor when the musicians you revere love what you’re doing, so it felt right to have them on this song with me. I hope everyone who listens feels the message behind the song while dancing and having a good time.”
