NOLA BISS 2019
04/25/2019 – 05/06/2019
Featuring: The First Church Of The Sacred Silversexual (~the World’s Only Bowie Worship Band ~) Performing: ‘the Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’ Plus Katey Red(new Orleans Queen Of Bounce)
The world’s only David Bowie Worship Band’ Debut Performance in New Orleans…. It has been 3 years since The Star man forever abandoned corporeal form and became Pure Glittery Stardust. We join together with Reverend Father Lysol Tony-Romeo and The First Church of the Sacred Silversexuals and honor his Legacy with a full Night of Bowie Worship! The First Church of the Sacred Silversexual brings its ritual worship of David Bowie to New Orleans for Jazz Fest on Sunday 4/28. Ground Control for the night will be One Eyed Jacks. The Silversexuals will be performing “the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”, Bowie’s seminal album, front to back, cover to cover! Joining them onstage will be some of SF and Nola’s favorite drag queens and burlesque stars, paying glittery homage to the Starman. The First Church of the Sacred Silversexual is the World’s Only David Bowie-based religion. Led by Reverent Father Lysol Tony-Romeo and an 8-piece Worship Band, they hold church services where Ziggy is the focal point, not Jesus, so they play Bowie songs. No true tribute to the Thin White Duke would be complete with a big fuck-all stage show, so the Silversexuals are joined by a cast of burlesque performers and drag queens as they build a theatrical spectacle on top of the timeless classics and endless B-sides of Bowie’s impossibly long career. The First Church debuted in 2011, drawing 225 people to their first show. In 2013 they won a SF Bay Guardian Best of the Bay Editors’ Pick for Best Bawdy Bowie Worship. For the past 5 years they’ve sold out annual Bowie Birthday shows at The Chapel in SF. Having grown into an SF institution for its reputation as a unique, “only in San Francisco” experience, the Silversexuals have made pilgrimages to Seattle, Portland and Los Angeles, but this is the first time they’re bringing their message that “Bowie Loves You” east of the Mississippi! But that’s not all! A proper religious tribute to Bowie wouldn’t be complete without a Big Spectacular Stage Show, and we’ve got that and more! We will be welcoming some of SF & NEW ORLEANS’ favorite drag queens and burlesque stars to the stage as the Spirit of Ziggy flows throughout the performance!

On Friday, May 3rd at the Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans, over fifty outstanding musicians from New Orleans and around the nation along with over 1,500 fans will come together during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival to bring you an all night live music event featuring ten bands on two simultaneous stages! This year’s 17th Annual event line up consists of exclusive appearances featuring several varieties of funk, roots and dance music flavored with soul, jazz, blues rock and New Orleans rhythms. The Bayou Rendezvous is the only event of its kind, going all night long, and is always one of the most memorable and unique night shows during Jazz Fest, and we invite you to be a part of it!
This year’s event will once again benefit The New Orleans Musicians Clinic (NOMC), a patient centered medical home for more than 2,500 New Orleans performers providing primary care, mental health, social services, and advocacy regardless of the patients’ ability to pay. The NOMC will have a table set up with materials to bring awareness to their cause, and we will be selling merchandise with the proceeds being donated to NOMC.  We’ve also put together some enticing sponsorship packages in an effort to raise more funds for this very worthy cause, and hope you will consider partnering with us to increase the impact.

The Howlin’ Wolf has a long history as one of New Orleans’ finest locally owned and operated venues. Named after the legendary bluesman Chester Burnett, New Orleans was introduced to the Howlin’ Wolf in 1988, when it opened up in Fat City. After outgrowing its’ space in a cotton warehouse, the venue relocated to what was previously the New Orleans Music Hall, in the Warehouse District.
