BISS List 1.25.23: Mark Karan’s Buds + Best of BISS this Week

Happy New Music Wednesday!

Today, I want to introduce a new section in our weekly BISS List. I have on occasion posted new songs from bands I love but I want to make it official with a new section called: Listen To This!

In this debut of the new section, I want to debut the first single off of a new album coming out from one of my latest favorite artists, Lantz Lazwell. If you follow me or BISS List at all, then you have definitely heard his name from me. After waking up two days in a row with this song in my head, I thought I would share it and put it in yours! So check it out below!

Now let’s talk about this weekend. Looking at the Best of BISS for this week, I imagine we will be spread out all over the Bay Area from the North Bay to the East Bay to right here in the city.

Personally, I am super excited for one of my faves, Lettuce, to come to play at the Fillmore for two nights. We have a lot of great entries for the contests to win a pair of tickets to the Friday night show! Get those entries in and make them good. There is stiff competition out there!

Of course, the after parties each night will be right across the street at the Boom Boom Room with Superblume + Spunj on Friday and Yak Attack + Space Goat. And yes, there is an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to each of these shows just by spreading the word.

Mark Karan is best known for performing with the extended Grateful Dead family. For the last twelve years, he has anchored the lead guitar slot in Bob Weir & RatDog, playing hundreds of shows to thousands of fans year-round. Before crossing over into the land of the Dead, Mark worked his guitar and vocal voodoo for the likes of Dave Mason, Delaney Bramlett, the Rembrandts, Paul Carrack, Huey Lewis, Jesse Colin Young, and Sophie B. Hawkins.

Mark also tours with an array of amazing musicians in his own “Mark Karan’s Buds”, where his soulful blues-based vocal stylings and inspired guitar work meld with the remarkably creative and responsive playing of his friends in a passionate delivery of the psychedelicized sounds of Americana. This is where rock meets R&B and country and mixes with the soul of New Orleans… with healthy portions of reggae, folk, funk, and whatever else the muse might bring.
