BISS List 2.14.24: Spotlight on Boom Boom Room + Best of BISS this Week
Happy Valentine’s Day my dear readers!
Welcome back to another edition of The BISS List, your go-to source for all things music in the Bay Area. Whether you’re spending this Valentine’s Day week serenading your sweetheart or simply enjoying the rhythm of life, we’ve got the perfect playlist of live music to accompany your celebrations.
Last week someone asked if we ever thought about engaging in interviews with artists and posting them for you. Well, guess what? Here is your BISS Fun Fact of the week! We’ve been one step ahead all along! With over 10 years’ worth of interviews featuring iconic figures like Zigaboo Modeliste, Melvin Seals, Neal Casal, Chris Wood, Vince Herman, and more recently, Lantz Lazwell, we’ve got a treasure trove of insights and stories waiting for you. Thank you to BISS List contributing Editor, Josh Danson for the bulk of these epic interviews over all these years (watch for a few other bylines in there too)!
If you’re considering joining us to celebrate Lantz Lazwell’s birthday at Boom Boom Room this Friday, 2/16, and want to learn more about this talented musician, look no further. Dive into our archives to discover exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes moments with Lantz Lazwell and many other remarkable artists who have graced our pages with amazing interviews over the years.
The past week overflowed with electrifying live music experiences for the BISS List crew, as we delved into a vibrant array of performances all over town. Our Instagram page has become a hub of excitement, with #livefromtheshow posts capturing the essence of these musical journeys. And we promise even more content soon (especially if any video editors are lurking out there! 😉).
We kicked off the week with the soulful vibes of Fantastic Negrito & Friends at The Chapel on Thursday. Then on Friday, the night started with the captivating opening set of T-Sisters at The Independent. Then The Sam Chase & the Untraditional took the stage and performed his 2019 Faustian-Spaghetti-Western-Rock-Opera: “The Last Rites Of Dallas Pistol” in its entirety. The night didn’t end there. Ronkat’s Katdelic at the Boom Boom Room delivered late-night funk & groove that kept the audience grooving until the early hours.
Saturday night, love was in the air at the annual Tour D’Amour with ALO at The Fillmore! Plus, Steve Poltz, renowned for his quirky storytelling and infectious energy, set the perfect tone as the opening act. PS. Did you catch those dancers on stage for “Love Will Keep Us Together“? (Thank you Rupert Cole for your amazing photos!) 😜 The night continued across the street with an electrifying late-night performance from SF Is Dead Allstars (Jordan Feinstein, Reed Mathis, Murph Murphy, & Scott Rager). And a huge shoutout to BISS List friend & winner, Zach, for capturing videos and pics from Too Many Zooz at The Chapel!
For those of you lucky enough to score a ticket to see Phil Lesh & Friends’ Valentines Day show tonight at the Fillmore, enjoy the show! We heard the line-up will include: Grahame Lesh, Eric Krasno, Stu Allen, John Molo, & Steve Molitz making for a sweet Valentine’s celebration. We hope to hear all about it from you! #livefromtheshow
This week’s sonic adventure kicks off on Thursday, as we venture over the bridge to catch Jackie Greene‘s, first of three, what are sure to be, mesmerizing performances at The Sweetwater (SOLD OUT!). The evening continues back in the city with DangerAte at The Boom Boom Room (FREE), where the energy promises to be infectious.
Then, brace yourself for an unforgettable Friday night, as Galactic takes the stage at the historic Fillmore for the first set of the evening, setting the tone for an epic weekend ahead. Galactic’s music is like a cosmic cocktail of funk and soul, guaranteed to teleport you to a realm where the dance floor is the only destination worth exploring.
But hold on tight… because halfway through Friday night, marks the beginning of what we are calling the “Guitarmageddon” portion of the weekend due to the extraordinary guitar talents we are about to experience for the rest of the night and again on Saturday… It kicks off with the triumphant return of Sean Leahy to the Boom Boom Room, accompanied by his band Wounded Birds, featuring an ensemble of stellar musicians including Pamela Parker, Jennifer Curriel, Daria Johnson, and Jordan Feinstein. The night continues with a late-night celebration of Lantz Lazwell’s birthday, featuring his band LAZWELL, with the sensational addition of Lady Chi (JGB). Expect surprises and special guests to elevate the already electric atmosphere (*WIN*). Happy Birthday Lantz!
The guitar frenzy doesn’t end there! Saturday brings yet another legend to the stage, as one of my all-time faves, Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule take the spotlight in the East Bay at The Fox.
With each note and every chord, these performances promise to ignite the soul and leave audiences awestruck. Get ready for a weekend of unparalleled musical brilliance and unforgettable experiences.
As always, check out the Best of BISS section with our show picks of the week and Win Tickets page. And don’t forget there is always more on the Full Calendar.
But wait there’s more! Check out “My People” by Cha Wa, from the album Live at Brooklyn Bowl in the #ListenToThis section below!
Keep the music and love flowing all week long.
