BISS List 3.12.25 Spotlight on Joe Marcinek Band ft Melvin Seals + Best of BISS this Week

Happy Midweek Groove, BISS Listers!

Well, this past week didn’t go as planned—I was home sick instead of out catching live music. But as one of the first Rules of BISS goes, there’s no such thing as FOMO. You’re always exactly where you’re supposed to be, whether that’s at a show, sleeping, eating, or in my case, chugging tea and resting up.

Thankfully, you BISS Listers had my back, capturing moments from the week and keeping the music alive. This week, I created a new album called “We Love Live Music!” and many of you are already in it! So far, you’ll find pictures and videos from a variety of shows, including G-Love, Delvon Lamarr, Scott Pemberton with Sean Leahy, plus Ron Artis and Hall & Oates in Hawaii—and a few more! Now that I’m feeling better, I’m looking at this week’s Best of BISS, which you’ll find when you scroll down. There are so many great shows happening, and while I wish I could be at all of them, here’s what’s on my personal calendar:

Wed 3/12 (assuming I’ve fully shaken off the ick): Instrumental Funk Session at Ivy Room (*WIN*)
Thurs 3/13 (I will be better for this one!): The Motet with Polyrhythmics at The Independent (*WIN*)—this is a must-see, and I can’t wait! Congrats to all of our winners! And just when you thought that was it, we just got one more pair of tickets to giveaway! Spread the word far and wide, and then enter to win!!
Thurs 3/13: Afterward, I’ll probably head to Boom Boom Room for Toubab Krewe (*WIN*) to keep the party going.
Fri 3/14: Mike Dillon & Punkadelic + Reed Mathis at Ivy Room (*WIN*)
Fri 3/14: Then back to SF for RonKat’s KATDELIC at Boom Boom Room (*WIN*)
Sat 3/15: Might just have to make a trip up to HopMonk Sebastopol for the surprise pop-up show with Joe Marcinek Band ft Melvin Seals! (*WIN*) For more info on this show—and how to win tickets—check out the Spotlight below. It sounds like it’s gonna be a good one!
Sun 3/16: Celebrating Miss Lisa C at Strawberry Station with Easy Wind – The Music of Pigpen for a special daytime show from 2 PM to 6 PM. Happy Birthday LC!
Sun 3/16: Then later that night, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are at August Hall (*WIN*). Capping off a wild week of music—if I can still stand by then!

Looking at the above ambitious schedule for my musical plans… I might have to cut at least one show to survive and make it to next week. Speaking of next week, while I have barely started thinking about next week, I do know I want to be ready for Nate’s Werthless Good Time on 3/21 (*WIN*) at Boom Boom Room. Expect special guests to show up again! and The Wood Brothers on the 3/22 (*WIN*) at The Fillmore. Be sure to read the BISS List next week for a special interview with Chris Wood!

Joe and Melvin first shared the stage in 2017, and their collaboration continued with Joe’s Dead Funk Summit, released in 2023. Now’s your chance to witness their musical chemistry live!

“Killing It” is a funk-driven, hip-hop-infused anthem about grinding hard, rising up, and living for the rhythm that fuels the journey.
