BISS List 3.9.23: Golden Road Gathering (5.12-5.14) + Best of BISS this Week

Greetings & Salutations BISS Listers!

#LastWeekend, Galactic played two full nights at the Fillmore, and I was lucky to attend both shows. Both nights were followed by epic funky jams going late into the night. Friday night @ BBR we got down with Oakadelic with special guest Robyn Jackson. Saturday, the late set at Boom Boom Room was on fire with Lantz Lazwell and the Vibe Tribe featuring Lady Chi + special guest Kelly Costello! It was amazing and yes I am biased but for good reason!

#ThisWeekend, there are so many great shows to see that you will not be able to choose just one. Tonight,Thursday, I would probably go to North Miss at Sweetwater if it wasn’t sold out (+ I do have another chance on Friday in the city). It would be great if I could be in five places at the same time onFriday so that I could attend North Miss @ The Indy, China Dolls Empowered @ Ashkenaz (*WIN*), Lyrics Born at SWMH (*WIN*), & Soul Ska, Angelo Moore, & Beso Negro @ The Chapel (*WIN*), & Fix Up, Look Sharp with my friends DangerAte at Drop 84 in Berkeley (*WIN*). Saturday, I am torn between my friends Minglewood Boys at Finnegans Wake right here in the city vs. my boys Monophonics playing at Sweetwater (*WIN*). Golden Road Gathering is Northern California’s premier funk and soul festival! Listen to “More to Learn” by Swatkins from his album, Friends & Other Necessities. Swatkins composed the original seed idea for this song at a studio retreat in Cabo San Lucas with Eric Krasno and Allen Stone. Years later, they revived and reworked the idea with Jans Ingber and his daughter Wren. The album version was then recorded at Jackpot! back in Portland with the best damn band in the land. A song for friends, celebrating our differences.
