BISS List 7.2.26 Spotlight on LA GENTE SF + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy High Sierra!

As you’re reading this, I’m up at the Nevada County Fairgrounds fully immersed in High Sierra Music Festival mode. After weeks and weeks of preparation, it feels pretty amazing to finally be here. By now, FestivALL guests should be settled in, the music should be flowing, and I’ll hopefully have had the chance to share some hugs, and reconnect with old friends. And yes, before anyone asks… I am being careful, taking breaks, and drinking lots of water. 😂

There is so much good music going on at High Sierra, so I really hope I can find moments to catch a little of it myself. For those of you staying closer to home, don’t worry… there is still plenty of incredible live music happening around the Bay Area this week, so let’s get to it.

One of my favorite things about this time of year is how easy it is to stumble upon great live music. Between all the free festivals and concert series happening around the Bay Area, there’s always something worth discovering. This week’s Spotlight is a perfect example: LA GENTE SF at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival on July 16th. LA GENTE SF always brings incredible energy, and this is a perfect way to spend a summer lunch hour.

SPOTLIGHT ON LA GENTE SF

July 16th @ Great Lawn, Yerba Buena Gardens

As his band’s name suggests, Rafael Sarria Bustamante created LA GENTE SF as a vehicle to bring a cosmopolitan array of grooves to the people. Back in the Bay Area after several years in Madrid, the charismatic frontman has honed a dance-inducing Caribbean sound blending cumbia and reggae, salsa, hip-hop and reggaeton. LA GENTE SF’s fifth album, 2025’s Entre 2 Mundos, captures the group’s international spirit with music videos recorded and filmed in San Francisco, Colombia, Spain, Mexico and Morocco. Featuring Sarria Bustamante (lead vocals, guitar, percussion), Diana Rivera (vocals, percussion), Jordan Feinstein (keyboards, vocals), Jesse Weber (vocals, percussion), Patricio Angulo (drum kit, vocals) and Julio De La Cruz (electric bass, vocals) the sextet delivers politically conscious tunes designed to unite everyone in ecstatic movement.

Part of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, this free concert is one of many performances in a season-long celebration of music, dance, theater, and culture in the heart of San Francisco.
