BISS List 4.1.26 Spotlight on Down To Funk Festival + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Chag Sameach and Happy Holidays to all who are celebrating this week, whether it’s Passover, Easter, Ramadan, or something else meaningful to you.

It’s one of those weeks where a lot of traditions overlap, and there’s something really special about that. Different reasons, same core idea of coming together, sharing meals, showing up for each other, and taking a moment to pause. Over here, it also means I’m in full host mode. There will be matzah ball soup, and yes, the balls are big and fluffy and people keep coming back for them year after year, so I must be doing something right.

At the same time, the music calendar is doing what it always does and not slowing down for anything. It’s a full week all around, and I’m feeling that balance between real life and show life in a very real way. Honestly, that’s kind of the sweet spot. A little grounding, a lot of groove.

Down To Funk Festival

August 14-16 @ YMCA Camp Jones Gulch, La Honda

The initial lineup drop for this groovy adult-friendly summer camp gathering of funk lovers features headliners Polyrhythmics and Nik West, along with regional bands Mission Delirium, Huney Knuckles, The Gold Souls, Big Sticky Mess, The Westones, Floratura and Sun Hop Fat.

Early Bird tickets are on sale now and include all this goodness:

Inspired to celebrate and explore this legacy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called Down To Funk Fund was founded by a small gathering of musicians, organizers, and creatives for the purpose of producing Down To Funk Festival. Both are focused on nurturing the history, culture and community of feel-good-do-good funk music.

Grateful Voodoo: Second Sundays

April 12th @ Peri’s Tavern

Grateful Voodoo stirs up their funky gumbo of Grateful Dead and NOLA funk as they kick off their Second Sundays residency at Peri’s Tavern in Fairfax. This month’s lineup includes Jim Talley, Matt Lazarus, J.P. McLean, Jeannette Ferber, and Dave Rokeach.

More to come as Grateful Voodoo’s Second Sundays continue through the spring and summer, with a rotating lineup of special guests including Mark Karan, Anna Elva, Mike Meagher, Jeff Hobbs, and more.
