BISS List 3.19.26 Spotlight on Preservation Hall Jazz Band (4.9-4.12) + The Best of BISS This Week

Happy Mid-March BISS Listers!

If this week has felt a little hot, you are not imagining it. We are in the middle of a record-breaking heat wave here in California, and especially in San Francisco, where spring usually takes its sweet time. On March 17th, the temperature hit 86 degrees, about 20 degrees above normal. The last time it got that hot in March was back in 1914 when it reached 85 degrees.

Suddenly it feels like summer arrived early, and with it comes that familiar pull to get outside, see friends, and follow the music wherever it’s happening.

Before we get into what’s ahead, here’s a quick look back at Last Week

Fri 3/13: Marmot King’s Game Night @ Manny’s was a blast as always. Community vibes, laughs, and the kind of hang that reminds me why these midweek gatherings matter. Hope to see you at the next one!
Fri 3/13: Atta Kid @ Boom Boom Room brought the funk as expected. Tight grooves, strong energy, and a dance floor that did not need convincing. Album here. The Attic opened with new fresh vibes and a new lineup. Videos here.
Fri 3/13: American Beauties: 4th Annual Women’s Day Celebration & Tribute to Bobby Weir & Donna Jean @ Ashkenaz. Featuring Sunshine Becker, Anna Elva, Nancy Wenstrom, Jen Rund, Richelle Scales, and special guest Nate LaPointe. Susana Millman captured the spirit with her photography, and Leah shared a full recap and video, with Gabriel David Barkin’s pictures ta boot!
Sat 3/14: ALO’s Tour d’Amour stop @ The Fillmore was full of sing-along moments and big fan energy. A reminder that some traditions just keep getting better. Enjoy clips here.
Sat 3/14: SF is Dead Allstars kept the night rolling @ Boom Boom Room with deep jams and familiar faces in the room. One of those nights where the music stretches time a little and suddenly its 3am. Videos here.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band returns to the Presidio Theatre to follow-up their February 2025 sold-out shows and Mardi Gras parties. Founded in 1961, the beloved Preservation Hall is a global institution and the Jazz Band has helped to define the musical traditions of the Crescent City for more than six decades. Preservation Hall Jazz Band presents the Big Easy’s musical heritage and the wealth of New Orleans’ musical talent.

Special Guest Karl Denson, on Thursday and Friday only, is the legendary funk and jazz saxophonist who leads his own group, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, founded the Greyboy All-Stars and performs regularly with The Rolling Stones. Multi-instrumenalist Ivan Neville is Aaron Neville’s son and nephew to the other members of The Neville Brothers and he will be the special guest on Saturday and Sunday.
