BISS List 9.24.26 Spotlight on ZinggFlower Mondays + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy Thursday, BISS Listers!

Anybody else out there feeling lucky? I know I am. Last night I got to see Jack White at The Fillmore, and holy crap, what a treat. An intimate room, a ticket I felt incredibly lucky to score, and absolutely no photos or videos to show for it because my camera, phone, and even my watch were all put away for the night. So this one is just going to have to live in my memory. Imagine that!

And speaking of feeling lucky, I’m grateful to still be sharing the BISS List with you after more than 20 years! Last Week in Review: Wednesday night I caught the Infamous Stringdusters with Silas Herman at The Guild Theatre. Such a fantastic little venue with great sound and not a bad spot in the house! Friday was Willie Waldman with Flow Tribe at the Boom Boom Room, with plenty of funk, jazz, and special guests. On Sunday I headed out into my neighborhood for the Haight Street Fair, catching Crooked Stuff, Danny’s Live Dead, and Mitch Polzak. Gabriel David Barkin was out shooting photos while I captured videos, so be sure to check out our coverage!

GamperDrums presents: ZinggFlower Mondays

Every Monday @ The MAB (Mabuhay Gardens)

ZinggFlower Mondays brings a rotating cast of Bay Area musicians to The MAB at Mabuhay Gardens every Monday night at 6:30pm for an ever-changing mix of jazz, funk, soul, and blues. Curated by Oakland drummer and bandleader Chris Gamper, aka GamperDrums, the residency is built around improvisation, collaboration and the chemistry that happens when great players see where the music takes them. This series grew out of Gamper’s weekly FunkJazz sessions with guitarist Drew Zingg and bassist Paul Eastburn at Boom Boom Room in 2024. Zingg took them on a wild ride every tune, each note exploding off the launch pad with rocket-fueled fire, never letting up.

Following Zingg’s death in early 2025, Gamper created ZinggFlower to carry that adventurous musical spirit forward. Different musicians and combinations take the stage each week, making no two Mondays quite the same. Expect deep grooves, spontaneous creation and fearless exploration, with some of the Bay Area’s finest players making music that only happens once.
