BISS List 10.1.25 Spotlight on The Crosby Collective (10.17) + The Best of BISS This Week

Happy Hardly Strictly, BISS Listers!

This weekend always reminds me how lucky we are to live in a city where tens of thousands of us can gather in Golden Gate Park for free to celebrate music together. Hardly Strictly is one of those rare gifts, and I never take it for granted. Beyond that, our music scene and community around it is incredible, and it’s events like these that remind us just how fortunate we are to be here in the Bay.

At the same time, I have been in a bit of a funk recently. Call it eclipse season or simply life doing its thing (or concerns of how to keep BISS alive financially). Losing friends in our musical community, from SD to Robert, Melissa, Doug & Kathy, and others, really puts things into perspective. It reminds me how precious this time is. We are lucky to be here still, still breathing, and to have music to bring us together through it all.

Last Week in Review:

Wed 9/24: Connect Together @ The Faight – The night was a huge success! It brought together women and allies from across the Bay Area music community to connect, collaborate, and celebrate. Jazz band Rhonda Sauce set the tone with a fantastic performance, while the rest of the evening was filled with conversation and plenty of inspiration. I captured some highlights here. Thank you to everyone who joined us! SITM’s initiatives serve women in the industry today while fostering the development of future generations. Sat 9/27: Celebration of Life for Robert Levy – On Saturday, I went to the Celebration of Life for Robert Levy. It was bittersweet to be in a room overflowing with love, sharing stories, laughter, and tears for a longtime sweet friend. The Robert Levy Band gave him a tribute straight from the heart, one he would have cherished. I was wrapped up in the hugs and the love, so I did not capture much, but here is a small glimpse of a beautiful evening honoring Robert.

What’s On My Radar:

It is officially October, which means Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is taking over Golden Gate Park this weekend. Whether you are planning to set up your blanket for the day, catch a favorite set, or just wander between stages, it is always one of the highlights of the year. The SF Chronicle put together a super helpful guide to help you plan your weekend: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2025 Guide. Shout out to She Is The Music, who will be presenting local artist Kelly McFarling on Sunday at 11am @ the Rooster Stage.

Wed 10/1: Camp Winnarainbow Benefit @ Presidio Theatre – Steve Earle, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and special guests with Sam Grisman Project as the house band. A beautiful night of music supporting Wavy Gravy’s legendary circus and performing arts camp.
Thu 10/2: Vibe Right! @ Boom Boom Room – Azkia Malik, Rhoyal Baib’e and friends bringing a no-cover night of hip hop, R&B, jazz, and funk fusion.
Fri 10/3: High Step Society + Tracorum @ Boom Boom Room (*WIN*) – A big band dance party colliding with San Francisco funk for an epic Hardly Strictly afterparty.
Sat 10/4: Gitkin (ft. Brian J of Pimps of Joytime) @ Boom Boom Room (*WIN*) – Global soul, surf noir, psychedelic funk, and analog haze. For one night only.
Sat 10/4: Pete Floyd: Premier Pink Floyd Tribute @ Rancho Nicasio (*WIN*) – A BBQ on the Lawn with Rancho Nicasio’s first ever Laser Light Show! Support the Nicasio Valley Volunteer Fire Department and get your Floyd fix.
Tue 10/7: Durand Jones & The Indications @ Fox Theater Oakland with The Psycodelics – A Flowers Tour stop bringing retro soul, R&B, and disco grooves.
Wed 10/8: Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears @ Sweetwater Music Hall (*WIN*) – Raw, soulful energy with funk, horns, and garage rock grit.
