BISS List 7.23.25 Spotlight on GD60 Pre-Shows & After-Parties at O’Reilly’s Pub + The Best of BISS This Week

Happy No-Sky-July, BISS Listers!

Yes, apparently that’s what they call the month of July here in San Francisco … and honestly, with the weather we’ve been having, it fits perfectly. If you haven’t heard that name before, well, now you have. While the rest of the country is facing extreme heat, storms, and flash floods, We’ve had classic SF summer weather … foggy at times, sunny at others, but always comfortably cool.

If you’re still buzzing from High Sierra Music Festival like I am, you’re not alone. We’ve got some beautiful photos of magical sets at HSMF from BISS photographer Davin White, including Andy Frasco, Sgt Splendor, Diggin Dirt, & Steve Poltz. We also want to share this excellent write-up by B. Getz (Upful Life) over on Live For Live Music: Goodnight, Miss Lulu White: A Lullaby For High Sierra 2025. He put it all in words that captured the feeling!

As much as I’d love to stay in that mountain glow a little longer, it’s time to get current and caught up… because here in the city of SF, it’s humming with energy as GD60 is right around the corner (next week!). We’ve been bringing you promotional spotlights every week from all the upcoming shows! If you haven’t been keeping track, make sure you read your BISS Lists from the past few weeks to catch up.

Last Week in Review

  • Thu 7/17: Dead Night @ The Faight Collective with Dead Roses (before and after Holly’s show): This is a fab new(ish) community spot in the Lower Haight. I also got a new kimono from my Misty Morning Dyes. Plus, I ran into my long-time friend and talented artist, Michael Moss. (You can check his artwork out upstairs at Faight in their gallery space next week, open 7/31.) I know that I will be there more often!
  • Thu 7/17: Holly Bowling @ SFJAZZ – Four sold-out shows in two nights … and one of the most captivating solo performances I’ve seen in a long time. Holly delivered a mix of stunning originals and epic covers, including A haunting version of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” that had the whole room holding its breath. It was seated, silent, and deeply moving… and not exactly the easiest show to catch a video, though unforgettable just the same. Got video? Send it my way!
  • Fri 7/18: Game Night @ Manny’s Café – So much fun! The place was buzzing with different games at every table, and I somehow ended up hosting two rounds of Family Feud… which, let’s be real, I brought… so that tracks. I’ve been told I handled it like a blend of Richard Dawson and Steve Harvey. People were learning, teaching, and laughing all around the room. It’s the kind of Friday night we need more of.
  • Sat 7/19: Mosswood Meltdown @ Mosswood Park – I wasn’t able to make it to Oakland for this one, but I’ve heard great things. A full review and photos will be coming next week from our photographer, Davin White.
  • Sat 7/19: Soji Sai (of Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80) @ Boom Boom Room – Josh caught Soji Sai Afrobeat Explosion on Saturday and said the energy was incredible. Packed house, killer tunes, and a powerful vibe of unity. Check out the videos he sent me and read more of his thoughts here.
  • Sun 7/20: Chromeo + Girl Talk @ Stern Grove: Okay… this one was wild. Shoutout to my friend (thanks, bro!) Thanks to JP for the VIP table… not having to show up at 1:00 PM and fight for a spot changes everything. We rolled in with our seats waiting, mixed up a few Bloody Marys, and watched as the Grove filled up and the energy started to build. Chromeo brought the funky swagger, and Girl Talk turned it into a full-on dance floor takeover … there were people dancing on stage, in the aisles, everywhere. As my friend Lindsey said: “It’s popping off today at Stern Grove … this is a real party.” Check out my comments & video clips from both sets and see for yourself.
  • Sun 7/20: ZHENIIA @ Black Cat SF – After the Grove party, I headed to Black Cat with friends for a dinner set that absolutely hit the spot. ZHENIIA delivered a beautifully crafted set of Persian Jazz Fusion … soulful, elegant, and full of depth. A perfect end to a full Sunday. If you haven’t made it to the Black Cat (or even if you have), you should take advantage of BISS List’s free ticket giveaways every week, for Wed, Thu, and Sun shows. Check the calendar, spread the word, and enter to win a table for two!
  • Fri 7/18 – Sun 7/20: Terrapin Roadshow @ Forest Meadows – Our contributing editor Gabriel Barkin was there on behalf of BISS List, capturing the vibe and covering the show. Check out his write-up and photo gallery, stellar as always!

What’s On My Radar

  • Wed 7/23: North Mississippi Allstars @ HopMonk Novato (*WIN*) – It’s a birthday celebration up north, and these guys always bring the groove. Happy Bday Nicole & Dru, and Michael!
  • Fri 7/25: Boom-Funk-A-Lotta @ Boom Boom Room (Free) – With a name like that at the Boom Boom Room, you know they are going to deliver the FUNK!
  • Sat 7/26: KATDELIC @ Boom Boom Room (*WIN*) – RonKat’s sets are dripping with deep-space funk … if you missed the Mothership last time, don’t sleep on this one. AND happy birthday to Phillip, our calendar and contest MVP!
  • Thu 7/24 or Sat 7/26: Lady Gaga – I’m still trying to decide whether to check out Lady Gaga… Not necessarily because I’m a superfan, but I’ve never seen her live and I’m genuinely curious. (Tho probably not $450 curious!)

Mark Your Calendar

  • 8/1 – 8/3: Dead & Company @ Golden Gate Park – It’s three nights of Dead & Company in Golden Gate Park with truly epic openers: Fri 8/1: Billy Strings, Sat 8/2: Sturgill Simpson, Sun 8/3: Trey Anastasio Band. Yeah … this is not the weekend to leave town (or maybe it is).
  • 7/31: A Grateful Gathering @ Yerba Buena Lane – I’m super excited to be part of this one … a free outdoor BISS-supported event to kick off GD60 weekend! Expect live music from Jordan Feinstein & Friends, local vendors, and good vibes in downtown SF. Hope to see you there!
  • 7/30 – 8/4: Most of next week, you’ll find me on Haight Street helping out at Love on Haight — the most colorful store in the world (@ the corner of Haight & Masonic). Mention BISS and get 10% off!
  • 7/31 – 8/3: GD60 on Haight @ O’Reilly’s (*WIN*) – On my breaks from LOH, I’ll head down Haight St to O’Reilly’s (Haight @ Stanyan).. Day shows, night shows, and some great vendors! For more about the shows at GD60 on Haight, Check out the spotlight below!
  • 8/1 – 8/3: Speaking of the awesome vendors at GD60 on Haight at O’Reilly’s… Our newest BISS sponsor & my new favorite wellness brand, Four Peaks Medicinals, will be hosting a booth! For more about Four Peaks, check out the spotlight below!

If you’re not sure what else is happening next week here in SF … trust me, there’s plenty … read through the last few weeks of the BISS List, check out each spotlight, or just head straight to our full calendar to see what’s listed. You can also browse the Best of BISS to plan your adventure for July 31 through August 3, including chances to win tickets. There are daytime shows, nighttime shows, late-night shows… and next week, we’ll tell you about more! Plus, I will include a full recap of it all. Until then…

Much love and funky vibes,
~Pamela aka Miss BISS

BISS REVIEW

Terrapin Roadshow San Rafael

Terrapin Nation kicked up some major jams in San Rafael this weekend. Three shows at the Forest Meadows Amphitheatre on the Dominican University campus featured a variety of Terrapin Crossroads veterans playing – what else? – a whole bunch of Grateful Dead music. Check out the full review & photos from Gabriel Barkin here.

🎶 Two Ways to Help Keep the BISS List Alive! 🎶

The BISS List has always been a labor of love, fueled by passion for live music and a dedication to this amazing community. What started as a personal email of show picks has grown into a full-fledged resource for funk, jam, soul, and groove lovers—bringing you curated show recommendations, ticket giveaways, and a space to connect over the music we love.

But running BISS takes time, effort, and real costs—over $3,000 a month just to keep the basics going! That’s why we’re excited to offer two ways you can support and help sustain the BISS List:

Make a tax-deductible donation – The BISS List is now fiscally sponsored by Independent Arts & Media, which means your donation directly supports our mission while also being tax-deductible! Every contribution helps us grow, support artists, and expand BISS to serve the music community even better.

Join our Patreon – Want to support and get perks? Patreon gives you a way to back the music you love while enjoying exclusive benefits. Your membership helps cover essential costs and allows us to keep BISS thriving without constant financial stress.

Your support—no matter the size—keeps the BISS List alive and ensures we can continue sharing the music, artists, and shows that bring us together. Thank you for being part of this incredible community. Let’s keep the music playing! ~ Pamela aka Miss BISS
