Spotlight on Jerry Week at GAMH + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy High Sierra Recovery!

After a week at High Sierra, I am officially in recovery mode and slowly rejoining the land of the living. Whether I am miraculously still standing of my own accord, or being held together by music and ibuprofen remains to be seen. Either way, I know High Sierra has been filled with incredible music, amazing people, and countless moments of joy, connection, and community. I can’t wait to share stories, photos, and reflections with all of you in the coming weeks. If you were at High Sierra, I’d love to hear about your experience. What were your favorite sets? What magical moments did you witness? Hit reply and let me know.

In the meantime, there is still a whole lot of great live music happening around the Bay Area this week, so let’s get to it! Here are a few shows on my radar for this week.

If you want to keep up with even more of what’s going on, make sure you are following us on Instagram for the weekly Hot List Reel. We’ve also got super easy to enter social contests, including one that ends today to win tickets for Beats on the Bay, a sunset cruise with Balkan Bump and a chance to win a pair of festival tickets for For the Funk of It.

Looking ahead, you’ll want to mark your calendar for these shows next month, when Poolside Presents Jerry Week at Great American Music Hall. It kicks off on August 2nd with Melvin Seals & JBG, before AXIAL TILT takes over on August 7th & 8th. Keep scrolling for more on this in the spotlight below.

As I continue to recover and process everything that High Sierra had to offer, I’m feeling especially grateful for this incredible community we’ve built together through music. Thank you for reading, for sharing your stories, for showing up at shows, and for continuing to support live music and the artists who make it all possible.

SPOTLIGHT ON JERRY WEEK

Jerry Week at Great American Music Hall

8/2  Melvin Seals & JGB
8/7 AXIAL TILT
8/8 AXIAL TILT

Poolside Presents Jerry Week at Great American Music Hall with three nights celebrating the music, spirit, and enduring legacy of the Grateful Dead. From the soulful sounds of Melvin Seals & JGB to two marathon evenings with AXIAL TILT, the series brings together legendary musicians and acclaimed performers for an unforgettable week of live music in one of San Francisco’s most iconic venues.

Melvin Seals & JGB opens the celebration on August 2. Revered for his powerful, high-spirited Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards, Seals spent 18 years with the Jerry Garcia Band, helping pioneer and define what has become jam band music. Blending blues, funk, rock, and jazz with soul, spontaneity, and remarkable chops, Melvin Seals & JGB also features John Kadlecik, John-Paul McLean, and Jeremy Hoenig, with a heapin’ helpin’ of the Wizard’s magic on Hammond B-3. Joining them will be Headhunters saxophonist and New Orleans legend Donald Harrison, Jr.

AXIAL TILT takes over on August 7 and 8 with an all-star lineup featuring Stu Allen, Nate LaPointe, Mitch Stein, Elliott Peck, Stephen Ramirez, Pete Lavezzoli, Wally Ingram, and Special Guest Charlie Musselwhite. Each night includes one acoustic set and two electric sets—five hours of live Grateful Dead music with no songs repeated between nights—celebrating the legendary improvisation, musical exploration, and shared energy between band and audience that continues to define the Grateful Dead experience.
