BISS List 10.15.26 Spotlight on Galactic + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy National Grouch Day, BISS Listers!

Although with this much live music happening, what the hell do we have to be grouchy about? October is rolling right along, Halloween is creeping up fast, and there are plenty of shows to keep us busy between now and then.

Speaking of Halloween… have you figured out your plans yet? Galactic is taking over The Fillmore for Halloween weekend, and we’ll be talking more about that in this week’s Spotlight with a chance to win tickets. But first, let’s look back at what’s been happening around the BISS List community and what’s on my radar for the week ahead.

Last Week in Review: I made it to The Independent on Thursday for The Breaks, an incredible supergroup packed with musicians I already love seeing in all kinds of different projects. Check out the YouTube playlist for videos from the show. And then there was My Morning Jacket. Seven shows across the run at The Fillmore gave everyone plenty to talk about, so I threw the question out to the community on Facebook. Head over to my post to see what everyone had to say, check out photos and videos, and add your own favorite moments.

Our BISS List contributors were busy too. Gabriel David Barkin took a deep dive into the My Morning Jacket run at The Fillmore, plus a photo and video gallery from BEAT: The Music of King Crimson in Napa. Davin White also brought us a gallery from Diggin Dirt at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz.

On My Radar: This week’s Hot List Reel shows just how much live music we have to choose from all across the Bay Area. There is a LOT happening, but if you’re looking for me this weekend, you’ll find me here:

Fri 10/16: moe. @ The Regency Ballroom (*WIN*)
Sat 10/17: Tom Hamilton Band w/ Eric Silverman @ Cafe Du Nord – FREE when you RSVP with code: vampire. Check out our IG contest for a chance to win a record and signed poster, plus one lucky winner will get the chance to attend soundcheck!!
Sun 10/18: Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival @ Main Street HMB – get there before 1:30pm for Casa Del Sol and stay for Tracorum
Mon 10/19: North Bay Get Down @ The Big Easy Petaluma – free funk night with special guest LAZWELL

Of course, those are just my picks. Choose your own adventure with the Best of BISS, Full Calendar, and Win Tickets pages and find the show that’s calling your name this week and through Halloween. And while we’re talking Halloween… What are YOU doing? Are you heading to Galactic? Dressing up? Chasing another show somewhere around the Bay? I want to know where the BISS Listers are ending up this year.

That’s it for this week. Shake off the grouch, pick a show, and get out there. Halloween will be here before we know it!

SPOTLIGHT ON GALACTIC

Galactic

Oct 30th & 31st @ The Fillmore

For more than 30 years, Galactic has been a powerhouse of New Orleans music, fusing funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, and soul into a sound unmistakably their own. The group has evolved from a late-night funk outfit into a collective known for electrifying live performances and adventurous collaborations. With Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph on lead vocals, the band brings another dimension to its expansive sound through her soulful, commanding voice.

No tricks. Just treats when Galactic heads west for Halloween with two nights at The Fillmore. Bella Rayne opens on 10/30 and Parlor Greens kick off the night on 10/31. This theme is devils, fire, and devil’s helpers. 😈🔥 Come dressed to the nines or just ready to party!

BISS REVIEW

My Morning Jacket Wears Well

My Morning Jacket took over The Fillmore for a seven-night residency packed with deep cuts, covers, special guests, and plenty of surprises. With 117 different songs performed across the run, no two nights were alike. Gabriel David Barkin looks back at the band’s remarkable run and unforgettable musical moments. Check out the review and gallery here.
