BISS List 7.30.26 Spotlight on Bliss Fest + The Best of BISS This Week and More

Happy Jerry Week!

This weekend begins the Days Between, from Jerry Garcia’s birthday on August 1 through the anniversary of his passing on August 9. It is a time to celebrate his life and music, remember the loss, and appreciate how his spirit continues to bring people together.

I am also especially excited because the DJ Logic & Friends Days Between Tour kicks off tonight, and I helped put it together! The first three shows are in the BISS List realm: Nevada City tonight, Chico on Friday, and San Francisco on Saturday at Boom Boom Room (*WIN*). The band then heads north through Oregon and Washington. The tour explores the music of the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, and everything in between, making its timing during Jerry Week especially fitting.

Last Week in Review: On Saturday, I made it to Carlotta’s to see RonKat solo and checked out the new cocktail and wine bar. It is a cool space, and I hope to bring some of our favorite musicians there soon. Sunday was Stern Grove for Suki Waterhouse & Charlotte Lawrence, where it was a blast seeing so many members of our She Is The Music community come together and enjoy the music. BISS contributing editor Gabriel David Barkin was at Forest Meadows Amphitheater on Friday and Sunday. He captured Terrapin Nation in a new review and photo gallery. If you missed the San Rafael shows, or are ready for another round, the Roadshow heads to Truckee on August 15 and 16 for two more days of music (*WIN*)!

On My Radar:

Thu 7/30: Christone “Kingfish” Ingram begins a two-night run at The Guild Theatre, while DJ Logic & Friends kicks off its tour at The Fern in Nevada City.
Fri 7/31: Young and Dead takes over the Psychedelic SF Art Gallery from 1-4pm, Dark Star Orchestra is at The Greek for two nights, and DJ Logic & Friends are at Lost on Main in Chico. Say hi to Karin and Kyle for me!
Sat 8/1: Jerry Day is a free celebration at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater with Melvin Seals & JBG and Stu Allen & Mars Hotel. Then join me for DJ Logic & Friends at Boom Boom Room (*WIN*).
Sun 8/2: Melvin Seals & JGB is at Great American Music Hall, JRAD is in Napa, Violent Femmes is at Stern Grove. Late night, SF IS DEAD ALLSTARS with Hot Mountain Dips take over Boom Boom Room (*WIN*).

The Days Between give us many ways to gather, celebrate, and remember. I am proud that the DJ Logic tour begins here in our BISS List community, but it is just one part of a much bigger week honoring the music and spirit that continue to connect us.

SPOTLIGHT ON BLISS FEST

4th Annual Bliss Festival

August 16th @ Presidio Theatre

Bliss Fest is an outdoor art & music festival featuring an exclusive lineup of many of the Bay Area’s favorite artists including the American Roots group Elliott Peck & Friends, the high-energy cumbia of Combo Tezeta, and the delicious harmony-focused, guitar-driven Michael Michael Motorcycle.

Fold in a generous helping of circus fun featuring members of Circus Bella, food and drink available on site, and you have an afternoon of Bay Area bliss for friends and family of all ages at an historic theatre in the beautiful Presidio National Park.

SPOTLIGHT ON FINE FUNK & SOUL

Smoked Out Soul, Otis McDonald, Seal Party

August 14th @ Rickshaw Stop

Three of the Bay Area’s finest soul and funk outfits share the stage: Smoked Out Soul, Otis McDonald, and Seal Party — joined by a very special guest, blues legend Lester Chambers of The Chambers Brothers.

Seal Party opens the night with its horn-drenched blend of soul, psych, and art-rock. Two of the evening’s acts also share a connection to San Francisco’s historic Hyde Street Studios, where Seal Party records in Studio C and Otis McDonald records in Studio D, crafting the funk-soul grooves heard in millions of videos worldwide. Smoked Out Soul closes the night with the festival-tested party energy that has lit up stages from Bonnaroo to Outside Lands.

The Terrapin Roadshow came home to San Rafael for three sold-out days of deep cuts, inspired collaborations, and joyful surprises with the Terrapin Family Band and an all-star cast of guests.
