Born Jepther Washington McClymont, the reggae artist “Luciano” has long reigned as the king of “conscious” reggae music. It’s appropriate that Boz Scaggs’ new album is Out of the Blues, since the blues is what first sparked his five-decade musical career. Born William Royce Scaggs in Canton, Ohio on June 8, 1944, he grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, where he spent his teenage years immersed in the blues, R&B and early rock ‘n’ roll. While attending school in Dallas, he played in local combos. After several years as a journeyman musician around Madison, WI and Austin, TX, Scaggs spent time traveling in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, eventually settling in Stockholm where he recorded the album Boz. Returning to the U.S. in 1967, Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco.

Blue Note Napa outdoor Summer Sessions! Location: The Meritage Resort and Spa at 850 Bordeaux Way Napa 94558. Doors 5:30PM / Show 7PM BOZ SCAGGS is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. An early bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band, he began his solo career in 1969, though he lacked a major hit until his 1976 album Silk Degrees peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200, and produced the hit singles “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown”. Scaggs produced two more platinum-certified albums in Down Two Then Left and Middle Man, the latter of which produced two top-40 singles “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Jojo”. After a hiatus for most of the 1980s, he returned to recording and touring in 1988, joining The New York Rock and Soul Revue and opening the nightclub Slim’s, a popular San Francisco music venue until it closed in 2020.

The Zeros, aka “the Mexican Ramones”, are a punk band that formed in 1976 in Chula Vista, California, by Robert Lopez, aka El Vez, the “Mexican Elvis”, Javier Escovedo, Hector Penalosa, and Baba Chenelle. Like many groups, they were heavily influenced by The Stooges, New York Dolls, and The Velvet Underground. LIVE 105 presents: Formed in 1991 by California high school students Davey Havok (vocals) and Adam Carson (drums, backing vocals), AFI (short for “A Fire Inside”) began as a hardcore act. After gaining traction in the Bay Area scene and releasing their 1995 debut, Answer That and Stay Fashionable, the band signed to Nitro Records–the legendary incubator for some of punk’s biggest names. In the ensuing years, AFI built a steady following through releases like 1997’s Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes and 1998’s A Fire Inside EP, while they cemented their long-running line-up with the addition of bassist Hunter Burgan in 1997 and, finally, guitarist Jade Puget in 1998.

Named in tribute to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing Eastern culture and music into the world of Western rock & roll, the Brian Jonestown Massacre formed in San Francisco, CA, in 1990. Some 40 different members passed through the group’s ranks over the next half-decade, but their focal point always remained singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe, who along with bassist Matt Hollywood, guitarist Dean Taylor, organist Mara Regal, accordionist Dawn Thomas, drummer Brian Glaze, and “Spokesperson for the Revolution” Joel Gion, recorded the Massacre’s 1995 shoegazer-influenced debut LP, ‘Methodrone.’ A collection of early recordings, ‘Spacegirl and Other Favorites,’ followed on the band’s own Tangible label in early 1996, and was the first of four Brian Jonestown Massacre LPs to appear that year. Named in tribute to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing Eastern culture and music into the world of Western rock & roll, the Brian Jonestown Massacre formed in San Francisco, CA, in 1990. Some 40 different members passed through the group’s ranks over the next half-decade, but their focal point always remained singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe, who along with bassist Matt Hollywood, guitarist Dean Taylor, organist Mara Regal, accordionist Dawn Thomas, drummer Brian Glaze, and “Spokesperson for the Revolution” Joel Gion, recorded the Massacre’s 1995 shoegazer-influenced debut LP, ‘Methodrone.’ A collection of early recordings, ‘Spacegirl and Other Favorites,’ followed on the band’s own Tangible label in early 1996, and was the first of four Brian Jonestown Massacre LPs to appear that year. Next up was the brilliant, ‘Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request,’ a full-blown homage to the Stones’ glorious psychedelic-era excesses.

Roar In The Fall: Though Robert Plant is, literally and figuratively, the biggest name on the cover art for Saving Grace, he would be the first to say that the album is very much a group effort, with its title also serving as this new band’s moniker. The group members were drawn together by a shared love of roots music both vintage and modern–of blues, folk, gospel, country and those tantalizing sounds that lay in between. Despite Plant’s iconic status as an artist since his days with Led Zeppelin, Saving Grace managed to start out in 2019, casually and somewhat discreetly, as a local project. The players had been working collaboratively for barely a year, even serving as an unheralded opening act on a handful of dates with Fairport Convention when the pandemic intervened and any formal plans to tour or release music were temporarily shelved. He plays with The Rolling Stones, and leads his own group, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe (KDTU).
